1. newspaper is dying breed.
2. an add in the newspaper proves zero

I see this as a waste of money

I see this attempt to diminish a positive action as the final piece of conclusive proof that you are either a troll or a moron. Millions of people read USA Today every day, especially business people during the work week. Nobody said it "proved" anything - only that it is important to let the public know all the facts which are clearly on our side.

I'm neither....the simple fact is an ad in a flipping newspaper is a joke. So we run an ad that says we are a power conference...ewwww.....ahhhhhhh

our tv contract and LAME-ARSE BOWL line up say otherwise...but hey, spend on newspapers...spend away. It makes it alllllll better.

really there isn't much he can do...the only we our situation improves is if the play well on the field, make some good adds (BYU, etc) and get a new tv deal. Aresco can go on all the radio stations in the world, and buy ads in all the papers in the world telling everyone we are a power conference but until our payday increases and our bowl line up improves its all just cheap talk.

Rather people hear about us with "cheap talk" than no talk.

I'd rather our schools make more money and have better bowls....newspaper ads aren't going to get us either.

That remains to be seen. Beats hell out of doing nothing. In my 66 years, I have seen a great many major changes in this country accomplished by first changing public opinion. I think a well-conceived, relentless long-term publicity campaign (including media ads) can achieve that, especially if we can continue to arm Aresco with a strong argument. The USA Today ad was a great idea, worth every penny and a wise use of the AAC "war-chest" which gives us an advantage over other non-cartel conferences.

What a joke. Just another basketball conference.

Just gotta shake my head at clueless fans of programs that have been FBS for all of 15 minutes.

You are making the fatal mistake that believes doing anything is better than doing nothing. That is not always a true statement. In this case it's not true. Buying newspaper ads to pimp the AAC as a power conference is a waste of money and time. He might as well dress up in a giant hot dog costume that says AAC Power on the front and walk from NY to LA...it's pointless. It's doing something but pointless none the less. This newspaper deal is to MAKE it look like he's doing something. He gets paid a lot of money and he has to at least make this LOOK good. Fail.

Yeah, because it's not like the USA Today is in every damn hotel chain in America.

Thankfully you aren't running the conference.

Nor marketing.

For the people that think it's a waste......there is reason that advertising is big bucks and not doing anything changes nothing.
