Four true freshmen will be on the University of Houston two-deep roster when released Tuesday.

The first-year players who will see action to begin the season – wide receiver Steven Dunbar, offensive tackle Marcus Oliver, outside linebacker Matthew Adams and cornerback Howard Wilson.
Dunbar is the backup at one of the inside receiver spots behind Daniel Spencer. Oliver can play both tackle spots and is listed at left tackle. Adams is the backup to Efrem Oliphant at outside linebacker, and Wilson will be used as a reserve at cornerback and will see the field when the Cougars on in nickel package.
The Cougars have averaged playing 10 true freshmen each of the last six seasons.

Odds and ends
Team captains for the 2014 season: linebacker Derrick Mathews, defensive tackle Joey Mbu, free safety Trevon Stewart, wide receiver Daniel Spencer, center Bryce Redman and running back Kenneth Farrow. … Junior Kyle Bullard will handle field goals and extra points this season.
