Rice v ND watch parties -- good list, but need more!
A pretty good list, and growing. But for the love of God, Houston needs to be on this list!!!! There are more Rice fans in Houston than in the all these other cities put together, and only a fraction of them are actually going to South Bend.

I'm going to do one for the A&M game in New Orleans. Didn't get organized in time for the Notre Dame game.

Some buddies and I are planning on going to Little Woodrows in the Village to watch the game. Others are welcome to join.
Yes, it is absolutely ridiculous that they don't have some sort of watch party on or off campus.

You all realize it is perfectly acceptable to organize your own watch party, then tell the alumni office and it becomes the "official" watch party? Just need a venue that guarantees to have the game on TV and enough space. Not too hard to organize, especially once you find a place or two that work in your city.

I assumed that went without saying -- but I'm really glad you said it!!
Virtually ALL watch parties happen this way. Anyone who's waiting for a directive from on high is missing the point.

I believe RU's house will host the 'official' Central Valley watch party.

If I weren't going up on the charter, think I'd fly out just to be there for that.

Instead of complaining about what "they" should have done, a better option would be for MarketingOwl and his buddies could take the initiative to make it happen. As Mr Big indicated , all they need to do is contact the Alumni Office tomorrow; the staff will help from there. In doing so, these folks would be following the excellent example of motivated alums in SF, DFW and other cities: they didn't expect someone else to do things for them -- they acted. I've done it myself on several occasions and if you do it right, its quite rewarding. Surely Houstonians are capable of being similarly active?
Good fans understand that there is no "they" -- there is only "we".

Disappointed that Chicago would need a watch party, as it's only a 2 hour drive to South Bend. Support your team LIVE!

Walt, just think for a second: are you homsestly disappointed that there are alums in Chicago who (for whatever reason) cannot make the day trip and who decided to host a watch party instead? Instead of criticizing them, I salute them. Heck, they are doing more than anyone in Houston is so far.
Any criticism would be better directed not to doers, but to idle complainers -- we certainly have enough of those!

Those are good possibilities, once arrangements have been made with the management for reserved space and dedicated TVs. Do either of you plan to contact the Alumni Office today to get the wheels rolling?
Although I'm sure everyone has already thought this through and it goes without saying, having a Rice watching party is not the same as stating where an anonymous person personally plans to go. The Alumni Office is happy to help with some of the key details, but first someone has to pick up the phone.

Sorry, George, but, yes, I'm disappointed. Sure, it's nice that they've arranged a watch party, but given how short a drive it is to South Bend-- and recognizing that we all had a 18+ month advance notice of this game, I would have expected a better live turnout from Chicago area alums. The only other Rice game in this area the past decade was Northwestern several years ago. (Note-- I'm missing my 40th high school reunion in Westchester, NY, due to the conflict and the long-standing commitments I had made.) Also, as an FYI, the RSVP list for the Friday night happy hour with Joe Karlgaard is also embarrassing. 35 people have signed up, but well over half that total are comprised of either Rice folks (ARA, Development, Athletic Dept.) or a young alumni group from Houston, who will be staying in Chicago, and who arranged the chartered bus to South Bend.
So, yes, I'm disappointed.

That's normally my standard location for any Rice football watching in Houston.

I plan on flying to Chicago and being at the Notre Dame game in South Bend.
I just wanted to reaffirm that the Rice Village BWW is generally very Rice friendly.
