Bradley, Oral Roberts, well I don't know about their projected rpi, but those are interesting games. I do wish we could get more games with our regional teams, Arkansas State, Murray State, Morehead, Western Kentucky, even that game last season with Southeast Missouri was a good one. Unfortunately one of the many disadvantages the college game has versus the pro game is scheduling. There are 350 division one teams. About 300 of them suck but they need games too. That's why out of conference scheduling for most teams is lame.
Prairie View is part of the Las Vegas classic along with Stephen F Austin.

It wouldn't satisfy anyone, but I'd prefer the buy games to be more regional.

RE: Basketball Schedule To Be Released Tomorrow (8/21/14)
I bought season tickets for years even though I only made 2-3 games but in the last few years I found it harder & harder to get folks to use the tickets for those cupcakes. Tickets went unused, I stopped buying. I watch every game that's on the TV, still go when I can (attend several away games too), love my school, make donations, etc but one of these days we will have to schedule tougher home OOC games because attendance will continue to suffer otherwise, not just for the cupcake games but in season tickets bought. Our conference lost UL, our biggest rivalry & we have done nothing to replace that rivalry game. Glad we still have Cincy & UConn, SMU is a blip even though its a tough game for now but would love to see UF home and home, Vandy home & home, MO home & home, Kansas home & home, Texas home & home, etc, etc. I don't mean all of those teams every year, but I would like to see us find at least 1-2 schools like those with mutual interest that could be developed into a heated regional rivalry, a team we play every year. That would help sell season tickets & that will be needed in the future. Purposely didn't mention UTK, OM or AR because we should only play them if they play us home & home in FB. So why wait until we lose more attending fans, give them some motivation to buy season tickets before more lose interest.

Josh had to go with an awful schedule. I don't blame him. Lots of new pieces to try and put together and getting pounded by the big boys would be damaging to their psyche.

This season could unfold similar to smu's last year if we can't win enough of the 'marquee' games.

Who would be happy with the nit in year 6, especially with all the talent he's accumulated?

Been saying it for years. The Grizzlies are on the verge of taking over as THE basketball team in this city.

Folks are making decisions on what to do with their entertainment dollar. Looking at this schedule, it's not that tough of a decision.

I didn't realize Black Bear fans were so interested in the Memphis, non-conference schedule...?

With 18 conference games, that is 9 home and 9 away. That leaves 13 games to play, and 8 of those have to be at FEF. Three or 4 will usually be in an early season tourney, and maybe only 1 or 2 is a home game. That leaves 9 or 10 to play, and 7 or 8 have to be home games.

Then, we play one or 2 neutral site games with big teams, such as Florida last year, or Wichita State this year. That leaves 7 to 9 to play, and 7 or 8 still have to be home games.

Also, most tough teams want to play neutral site or home and home only, so there is a strict limit on how many we can get here in any one year.

Bottom line is, the remainder of the schedule, after the games I already mentioned, all have to be buy games, so it's almost impossible to make the home OOC schedule any tougher than it already is.

I understanding the reasoning but I just see too many schools having better home OOC schedules year in, year out than us. We don't have to schedule the BB elite, but we just don't have to schedule the +250 RPI schools either. Teams like Belmont, Mercer, Southern Miss, Evansville, Southern Il etc that get NCAA, NIT, CBI bids at the end of the year would play us at home without a return game required - and they likely would bring some fans. Then add at least one elite OOC rivalry team as a home & home. This offers a better buy for the fans that buy season tickets too. Just not "near impossible, IMO.

Quote:I understanding the reasoning

Obviously you don't understand anything. This has been explained to you over and over and it still doesn't come close to registering. You thought the Oklahoma State game last year was a pure road game with no return game planned.

That in a nutshell is a prime example of your definition of "understanding."

Wins against most of these home cupcakes will do nothing for the team or the perception of the team by others. Attendance will suffer, seems like the fans are being taken for granted, disappointed. Go Tigers...........

The OOC slate is not that bad.

Wichita
Gonzaga
Baylor
OSU
Probably Illinois.

And then of course there's UConn, Cincy, SMU.

Just lines up bad this season because of two/three neutral site games.

The home and homes with Louisville start next season. Which teams have more than 2 marquee home games every year?

Potentially the tourney schedule will be reasonable if we win some games but I was talking specifically about the HOME OOC schedule. Last year was weak, this year is weaker. We can & should schedule a better level of home OOC games. JP surely knows wins at home against cupcakes do nothing for the RPI, SOS, etc, such games aren't well attended - and they do nothing to prepare a young team for conference play. But I suspect JP is more concerned about losses in general this year. And financially, this indicates coach & AD are taking the fans for granted.

Without doing research, are there teams out there that routinely have more than 1-2 big name home games each season? There's been a gradual transition to big neutral site games over the last few years.

I guess UTM, Rhodes, and Southwest were already booked. Good lord that is atrocious. Why even go to the home games much less pay out the ass for season tickets?

I would say perhaps, but good teams from the power 5 probably not just because they will generally have 3-5 marquee home conference games also.

If one is in a lesser conference, then it might be imperative to get at least two a year. Of course, it isn't a one way street and other "big" schools have to agree to games.

They also play in the Big Ten...a vastly better conference than the AAC. They get all sorts of marquee home games in conference.

We don't have the liberty of scheduling a bunch of pansies. We have two or three quality home games the whole season by name recognition and caliber.

Most schools don't.

Some do.

Florida plays Miami (Fl) and UConn at the O'Connell center this year.

UTk plays Kansas State and Butler.

WVU plays Virginia Tech and LSU.

Kentucky has Texas and UNC.

South Carolina has Baylor, Ok State and Clemson.

A lot of schools have "driveable" name games (Illinois vs. Mizzou in Stl., Mizzou vs. Ok State in Kansas City, Ohio State vs. UNC in Chicago) meaning I would take a game in Little Rock or Nashville, too.

We'll play 3-4 top 25(ish) ranked teams in the OOC, how much better than that can we do?

At home, we're one "High-major" game short of a lot of other top programs, but would a game against Mississippi State or Vandy, for instance, really make that much of a difference?
