A little disappointed we didn't get $1 million, since the contract goes out so far.

That is totally wrong. These NIU games from 2013 are still available on WatchESPN/ESPN3: Akron, CMU, UMass, Ball State, Toledo, WMU, MACC and the Poinsettia Bowl. You can even still watch a replay of the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl.

I must be looking in the wrong place. Before, all I did was pull up the website, select "football" and I found all the old games. The last time I did that, there weren't any.

Go to WatchESPN, select "Replay," under Sports select "Football," and under Date select "All."

Apples and oranges ... none of these TV deals for football are being done with a correlation to basketball success. You want to say it's based on name recognition, potential audience, etc., fine. If you were correct, then then the Georgetown, Marquette, DePauls, etc. are getting some sort of package and who is getting the "football" half of that? It ain't the MAC.

RE: MAC TV Deal
Reading through everyone's posts and it's obvious we all assign a different value.
Yes, it's true that NIU football got to where it is in part thanks to the exposure in earlier years. However, Huskie football beating B1G teams and going to the Orange Bowl means we, not mid-week games raised our profile higher.
Before everyone views this as a gain of so many $ for the MAC, look harder at the deals other conferences are getting. Now days if you're not moving forward, you're not even staying put.
Very few on here believe ESPN truly respects us or the MAC, but everyone who said we can't afford to challenge ESPN is also right.
Make no mistake, ESPN is still calling the shots and if you were on the ESPN side of the negotiations, you would want to get the most -- convenient to their schedule, games, teams, etc. -- for the very least. And if NIU and the MAC didn't say, "thank you sir, may I have another," they'd pull out their trump cards: exposure, bowl games (the majority of which they own), SportsCenter mentions, etc.
Once again, it depends which viewpoint you want to take -- BobL and 7 insisting the exposure is worth everything -- versus huskiealum03 and NIU007 being customers who are concerned about cost, loss of vacation and personal time to attend more and more mid-week games.
And don't forget the P5 are going to continue to work on distancing themselves from everyone else and in a college football world existing under their terms and rules, will NIU, the MAC or anyone else be able to continue to make the type of gains we've made? I don't think so.

Pretty sure I did exactly that, it was some time ago. Can't check right now though.

RE: MAC TV Deal
This deal would be okay as long as the midweek games are kept to November (OR, preferably, moved to a warmer month), and the allowance of teams to seek local TV coverage for selected games continues. However, I foresee some of our Sept. and Oct. conference games also moved to midweek or more games pushed into November if the midweek games all stay in that month. Bottom line is that I think we will see more midweek games (home and away).

We can't play many more, already 5 of our 12 games are not on Saturday.

The commish said that is what he expects...didn't say it definitely would though.

See, the problem is that ESPN owns the MAC (like everything else). If they tell the MAC to play more midweek games, the MAC will do what the boss says. It's all up to ESPN, and we have become a prime midweek football outlet for them. Watch what happens in the future and see if my suspicion comes true. Steinbrecher and the MAC have raisins for balls.

A couple points...

- I'd rather have the weekday games in November vs. early in the year. I'm not really too interested in tailgating for 6 hours in weather like the WMU game last year.

- The weekday games won't be as bad if we get to a place where we are consistently having 2 non-conf home games (against good teams!) every year. that would usually mean at least 4 and sometimes 5 home Saturday games, which is good for me.

I can live with 4 to 5 Saturday games. However, something tell me that several of our conference games will be moved to midweek. Call it woman's intuition.

I sometimes have trouble seeing the listings depending on what device I'm using. Do what Bob said then type Northern Illinois into the Search box.

Yes, I tried that. I was doing that on my computer I think instead of my SmartTV. You said it makes a difference what device you use? Can you explain?

So, you would punish NIU for the MAC's decision?

I would donate more in an attempt to get them out of the conference that you (myself, and most people) have a problem with them being in.

Would donating more really get us out of the conference, though? I can see it MAYBE being enough to get us to go independent, but that probably isn't a good idea.

I use a desktop still running Windows XP (will change to Windows 7 Pro very soon). Also an android phone (HTC One) and an android tablet(Google Nexus) running Watch ESPN apps. All the interfaces are different, and I sometimes have the same problem as you. Using the search box and entering 'Northern Illinois' gets me what I want so I haven't bothered to fix the interface problem.

Not sure if I read it right but if we can get one Friday night game on Espn 2 or U that would be absolutely huge.

I think the mention of Friday night games is for basketball. I believe the football slate is already loaded with the AAC and MWC playing that night.

ACC has five or six straight weeks of Thursday night games on ESPN too.
