IIRC, UConn is also off-campus.

I didn't realize that. They still built it though right?

I don't think so. But a UCONN fan would probably know better than I would.

RE: American Stadium capacities
The state of Connecticut built a stadium for UConn in 2003 for $91.2M ($117M in today's dollars). The stadium is owned by the state. They issued $91.2M in bonds to build the stadium.

UConn has a lease agreement with the state that allows the UConn the right to use the facility for home football games, or any other event, with a minimum of 10 events per year. UConn makes payments to the state Office of Policy and Management for use of the stadium. It pays $170,000 per game, which doesn't include state revenues for parking and concessions.

As far as I can tell, no UConn fan made a stadium donation, and no UConn student paid a stadium fee as a part of their tuition & fees, but I could be wrong.

United Technologies donated the land to the state. In exchange, the stadium was named after one of its leaders Frederick Rentschler.

The stadium is located 19 miles from campus. Only UMass plays further away from campus than UConn does.

In just about every single category (distance from campus, paying rent, etc.), UConn's situation is MUCH more like Temple, USF and Memphis than it is SMU, Tulane, UCF, ECU, Tulsa, Houston etc.

I never quite understood the on-campus/off-campus argument. PSU plays on campus to a capacity of over 100K+ and normally sells out when big games are played their. I'm assuming that all 90K+ stadiums (Michigan, tOSU, etc.) play to on-campus stadiums with large capacities. I'm guessing part of the answer is space on campus, such as Temple's situation but is that the only reason?

I'm pretty sure the $100M+ price tag is the biggest deterrent.

Temple has the largest capacity, and Tulane the smallest. The average stadium capacity is 48, 603.

IIRC some of you figures don't jive. Houston now seats more than 40,000, Tulane seats 24,000. Tulsa seats 27,500. Cincy now more than 35,000.

Some body from these schools correct me if I am wrong.

Does not have much to do with a thread titled Stadium capacity. We all know some of the AAC schools play in NFL stadiums and Memphis has their deal with the Liberty Bowl. I just hope every AAC school does its best to fill those stadiums.

True. +1

+2. I hate it when stadiums are used as some kind of measuring stick or bragging/trashing factor, as sometimes happens on these threads. We have a diversity of stadium situations, and everyone is in good shape at present time. I see no stadium liability anywhere in our conference.

Everyone in conference needs to fill it up regardless of size or location. Thats the bottom line. Preaching to the choir on here though I am sure everyone in this thread has season tickets and extras to spare.

Besides Temple, Memphis, USF and UConn, other schools which play off-campus are:

Miami
UCLA
Hawaii
UNLV
Washington
Colorado State
North Carolina State
Pittsburg
San Diego State
South Carolina
Northwestern
Oregon
Navy
Baylor (?)

I am well aware of the advantages of on-campus stadiums, and would love to have one, but in our case, the stadium is only two miles away down a lovely mid-town street and we have a specially designed and constructed first-class tailgating area ("Tiger Lane"). The rent paid for playing there is modest, allowing more of our income to be spent on salaries and facilities as opposed to interest on stadium debt.

Here's a list. I don't vouch for the accuracy. Note that Baylor, like Tulane, moved back to campus this year.

I think it's kind of nit-picking to say NC State and South Carolina play off campus. Carter-Finley is just off the west campus, which itself is a stone's throw from the main campus. Plus NC State owns the stadium, and doesn't share it with anyone else.

Same with Williams-Bryce Stadium. USC is kind of an odd campus in that it's integrated with downtown Columbia. WBS sits just off the tip of the southeast part of the campus. USC also owns WBS and it isn't shared with anyone.

I have been to Navy's stadium and I would have sworn it was at the Academy.....anybody know for certain?

All I know is that this list http://www.footballgeography.com/list-of...he-campus/ shows it to be 1 mile off-campus (compared to 2 miles for Memphis).

Don't know where some of those numbers are coming from, but Tulsa and Tulane are both 30k stadiums. Cincy was recognized I'm pretty sure earlier. And Houston is 40k.04-cheers

If Memphis starts winning, then I expect around 40,000 - 45,000. I would love for us to average 50,000 but it will take time.

I'm sure you are right that UConn doesn't sell SRO tickets. I'm not sure about your other statement.

Global Sprectrum operates the stadium on behalf of the state of Connecticut. This spring, Global Spectrum put out a parking RFQ. The third page says:

The Stadium at Rentschler Field is an open-air facility occupying 8.5 acres of a State of Connecticut owned 75 acre parcel in East Hartford, Connecticut. The total Stadium capacity is 40,642, consisting of 38,110 permanent seats with an additional 2,532 standing room capacity in the scoreboard plaza.
