Right.

I do not have a sports pack with UVerse, and I will get SEC (in addition to BTN). I do not get Pac 12 networks or Longhorn.

BTN is available in 90 million homes, but only subscribed in 57 million. Pac 12 network is available in 60 million homes, but only subscribed in 11 million. No word on what SEC "subscribed" figures will be.

Is this part of a separate sports package like the PAC Network or will it be included in Directv's regular programing packages? For example: The B10 is included in certain programing packages, which I get on channels 610, 610-1. 610-2, etc.... (a terrible location for sports channels). However, I would have to pay extra for a sports package to get the PAC Network, which I refuse to do.

Btw... I have Directv and was getting the SEC Network before, but the quality was very poor and on a crappy channel.....

If you get ESPNU or ESPNNews you will get SECN. If you get BTN, you will automatically get SECN.

Not one person that gets the PACNET or B1GN will not get the SECN. Depending on the tier, this could help the BTN if that is what ESPN decides to do.

Do you know this for a fact or are you speculating? I suspect if you are in Wisconsin and get BTN, you may not get SECN. If you get SECN in Georgia, you don't necessarily get BTN.

"Is this part of a separate sports package?" I haven't read specific details yet but the information about that which I have heard is ambiguous. So right now I have to say I don't know. I have DirectTV and get the BTN on 610. I have heard that the SECN will be in the ESPN cluster of channels, but have seen no written information that it will be other than part of a sports package. Still in the Southeast I would bet most homes are buying the sports package already.

The SEC Network that you saw was part of our old distribution network through Jefferson Pilot or one of its other incarnations. Generally speaking the broadcast quality for those channels is not as impressive as a mainline networks. The SECN on ESPN will be quite different.

Thanks for the quick response....

The only reason that I brought up the old SEC Network is because I didn't have to pay extra for it. Like you, I don’t have to pay extra for the B10 Network because of the programing package that I have. If the SEC Network is located near the ESPN channels, I have to assume it won't be part of a separate sports package like the PAC Network if you have one of the better programming packages—which would be great. This would also be the perfect location for the SEC Network. If there is no additional charge for national customers, the SEC Network will quickly surpass the PAC Network and catch the B10 Network. The B10 Network is located so far up the channel list that I rarely even think about scrolling that far up to watch additional sports programming. Once the SEC Network surpasses the PAC Network, look for more realignment to happen….

To be fair the Big Ten Network by 8/30 will be available in more than 52 million homes and will also then make more money than it does now. That's when the broader distribution by Comcast, Cablevision, Time Warner and RCN in NJ, downstate NY and Maryland kick in. Apparently, through these agreements which I'm guessing don't just cover the NY, Philly, B'more and DC DMAs it goes up to 73 million households per the Big Ten website. The last few small providers in the New York, Baltimore and DC DMAs are expected to come online shortly including Service Electric of NJ which will increase those totals further. Another thing to note is that the BTN is available in Canada.

Glad to see this. FAU usually plays one SEC team a year at least and I know the Alabama game is on the SEC network this year. Glad I can watch it from home.

There isn't a channel 611 on Directv (I hope this isn't suppose to be a joke).... Do you mean channel 614 because it currently shows SEC related programing?

Directv adds/removes channels all the time. if you go to the wikipedia page- that's the number that they are showing for it.

The problem with DirectTV is that they do stupid things without prior notification. One day you have the Weather Channel and the Military Channel and the next morning you have Weather Central and Heroes. I can imagine what it would be like if one morning we wake up and the BTN and SECN have been replaced with Columbus and Birmingham High School Sports.

When the channel actually launches, it will be there.

It makes perfect sense - BTN is at channel 610, so the conference networks are right next to each other. The Longhorn Network will supposedly be at channel 609.

Yep, we all believe that. Good luck ever seeing your Memphis Tigers on antenna tv.

Yeah, I never understood the complaining about money going to this conference or that conference. I'm not an SEC fan, but I'll never complain about more access to football. Besides, any cable subscriber with ESPN (which is effectively everyone) is subsidizing all of the 5 power conferences to a large degree even outside of the conference networks.

Agreed. I have Comcast, so I already had access to PAC and B1G and watched both at some point on any given Saturday. Having SEC network will not change my viewing habits...only enhances my options.

Point taken but there's no reason to give them more money if you don't have to. If the SEC network and B1G networks were a part of my basic cable package I'd never watch them. In fact, MOST people with cable television would be in the same boat as me on that issue. It's a crock.

RE: DirectTV is now on board with the SECN
It's actually free market capitalism forces at work. Because of the DVR, advertisers cherish live sporting events (we fast forward through everything else). Based on ratings, football is still king for the foreseeable future. No one is giving the SEC and B1G money because they "have" to...advertisers and media outlets are doing so because they want to and it is profitable.
