Here is the link...the SEC Network is now available in 87 Million Homes:

DirectTV joins Bright House Networks, Comcast, Cox Media, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable, and AT&T U-Verse as companies that will carry the network. Verizon FIOS has not reached a deal yet with ESPN to feature the network.

Good news for all of the ESPN related schools.
You wonder how long the PAC will wait until they ask ESPN to take over marketing for their network.

If Charter is indeed added we will be in 91 million homes. I think it's safe to say that this is way ahead of even the most optimistic estimates for carriage at the open of the network.

This bodes well for the projected 2017 start of the ACC's network. ESPN and the SEC are doing a great job of laying a great foundation for the SEC's future.

Basically everyone but Verizon. Kind of surprised they haven't signed up yet. UVerse and Verizon are usually the early adopters. Caught up in "available" to the Big 10 network on day 1.

Big 10 has 57 million actually subscribed out of the 90 million it is available to.
UVerse customer here.

It's funny, they moved the Big Ten Network so they could put the SEC Network right after the ESPN networks (which makes sense, since it's an ESPN product and the BTN isn't). I think Steve Spurrier was behind that move.

Their Prez said they learned from the struggles of the BTN and LHN to get carriage.
I will not pay one f*#!*ng nickel for the SEC network. If DirecTV raises my rate, I will cancel and watch only free antenna TV (I receive 21 channels with rabbit ears) and DVD's.
Here is an updated SEC Network revenue projection from Clay Travis, which does include expenses and ESPN split.

wow. Conservatively saying 20 million per school. Yeah, I think the SEC will be ok.

It really is impressive. The SEC has done in six months what it took the BTN several years to do. It testifies to the power of the SEC brand right now.

Yes, in business one often hears talk of "first mover advantages" and those do exist, but sometimes you can profit by being the third-mover who sits back and lets the pathfinders bear the costs of clearing the path and learns from their trials and errors.

Yep, we all believe that. Good luck ever seeing your Memphis Tigers on antenna tv.

It is impressive, but listening to Clay Travis's financial projections is like asking a Pitt fan for an objective evaluation of WVU. Kind of like going to a Sushi place and asking for a well done hamburger.

The SEC will have availability, but not necessarily carriage in nearly as many homes as the BTN does now. They will be making a higher average rate. BTN averages around $1 in market and $.10 out of market. ESPN was asking $1.40 in market and $.25 out of market. BTN paid out roughly seven and a half million last year to the 11 continuing members several years into their network with all the initial startup costs paid now. $20 million per school for 14 members now or in the first few years with startup costs doesn't seem realistic based on those facts. I haven't read the Clay Travis link, but I've seen enough of his stuff to know its worthless. Actually all of his stuff is worthless, not just the financial stuff.

FYP

Among the last steps would be for Disney (ESPiN) to drop content inconsistent with that strategy. It's just business.

To be sure, it really speaks to the power that ESPN has (which is the single most powerful entertainment company on the planet as of now). DirecTV is going through a negotiation for ALL Disney channels (including ABC, ESPN, the Disney Channel, etc.), so it was perfect timing for Disney to use that as leverage for SEC Network carriage.

Also, let's make sure that we don't overstate the subscriber numbers. Being "available" in 91 million homes is quite different than actually being in 91 million homes. A network can be "available" in homes but is only part of a sports pack that has to be bought specifically (as opposed to the basic package). This isn't just an SEC Network thing, as the Big Ten Network does the exact same thing in touting its "available homes" number.

What ultimately matters is if the SEC Network is getting a full amount in its home footprint and, by all accounts, they have been successful there. Anything else is gravy.
