Climate chaos is like menopausal women…

I know you're joshing, but I did purposely put it on this board, simply b/c I thought it was interesting and worthy of barroom banter, rather than suggest it's political commentary.

Go to any desert around sunset and watch how quickly the temperature changes.

At Rice, there was always one morning in the fall when I would leave for class in the morning in shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops and emerge from a classroom one hour later to dark clouds, wind, and a temperature about 20 degrees cooler.
Nothing like that here in SoCal but in some areas, like CA's Central Coast, the average daily temperature swings in the valleys can be 40 degrees or more - one of the reasons the wine produced there is so good.

Traveling on the 101 south of San Jose, it is not uncommon during the summer to have 100+ temperatures in Gilroy, and be in the mid 50's by Prunedale.

You should have marked that date down on your calendar.

Not far south of that, we've had the same experience going from Paso Robles to Cayucos (about 25 miles). It's a real shocker if you're not dressed for it.

That temperature shift in Spearfish, SD was just wild. Jumping up nearly 50 degrees in two minutes and then dropping 50+ degrees a half hour later is crazy to me. Never heard of such a thing.
Thx for sharing the link.

I wonder how many people never realized the temperatures were quite pleasant for a while that morning.

Unreal. I'm sure some folks that stayed inside were oblivious but I imagine a few were outside at 7:30 AM and after experiencing a 49 degree increase in 2 minutes (think about that for a second) while wearing heavy winter outerwear probably first thought they were having a heart attack, stroke, fever outbreak, etc. They eventually went inside and told the first person they saw it felt like "summer in an instant" outside and got the "get the f outta here look!" The temp keeps climbing to a balmy 54 degrees by 9 AM and then falls back 58 degrees to -4 again in 27 minutes. Unreal.

RE: 5 incredible temperature swings
It's always funny to see the people on campus who are dressed in winter coats/pants/boots because it's 45-50 degrees at 8AM and then only them burning up when it's 70 at noon.

I work with an air force grad and he always tells the story of his graduation in their football stadium. It was 73 degrees when the ceremony started, and by the time it was over it was snowing.

That's pretty amazing.
When I was a kid in Tunisia I remember the breeze coming off the desert at night being bone chilling.
