Appearing on Tampa's WDEA-AM on Friday, Jones argued that the "have-nots" of FBS - the American, Mountain West, Conference USA, MAC and Sun Belt - should eschew their traditional fall football schedules and instead play in the spring. "I'll go ahead and say it right now," Jones said, "I think the have-nots should go ahead and move to the spring just like the USFL did. I think that there's an opportunity to do a complete other side of that division, and I think that if we don't think that way as a group of have-nots, we're going to get left behind. I can see in five-to-seven years, possibly, the public would demand to have the two leagues play, just like I think the USFL had in mind, originally, of the winner of the USFL playing the winner of the National Football League."
I like the fact that Jones is at least thinking outside of the box. Most of you are so fearful of taking risk and would just rather take the scraps the Power 5 conferences leave behind.
Spring college football is not thinking outside the box, it is nonsense to think that any college football team would succeed in this venture. I would rather see UCF drop football than be a mockery by trying to do that. I don.t see Jones seeing it successful, either.

The choice would be scraps in Spring Vs. scraps in fall. The only thing that will get people's attention are butts in the seats, followed by eyeballs on TV sets. And there is a strong relation between the first and the second, but not the other way around. Been to any USFL games lately?

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
From the SMU athletic department. Here's June Jones on his comments:
"My recent comments about the non-‘Group of Five’ conferences possibly moving their football seasons to the spring were my own, and not those of SMU or the American Athletic Conference. Not being in one of these leagues creates unique challenges, and requires us to think out of the box. My comments were an example of this, and, I hope, triggered others to do so as well.
“Our conference experienced a great deal of national success in its first season. Two teams were ranked in the top 15 of the final AP poll and five were selected for bowl games. At SMU, we strive for that same level of success and will compete for American Athletic Conference Championships. We want to compete with and beat teams from the ‘Group of Five.’
“All that said, with the season approaching quickly, my hope is to put this issue behind us and move forward. My focus will be on SMU and my team. Any further questions or comments concerning our future as a school or conference can be directed to SMU Athletic Director Rick Hart or American Athletic Conference Commissioner Mike Aresco.”

I think he doesn't know what Group of Five means.
Also, that press release reads like a hostage statement delivered at gunpoint.

RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
Wonder how much more we would have received with no June
The SMU athletic department reported $10.7 million in funds raised through annual giving for fiscal year 2014, a 29 percent improvement over last year’s total ($8.3 million). This marks the school’s sixth straight year of record funds raised.
RE: June Jones Says Have Nots Should Move To Spring Football
While I am all for bringing back the USFL,(Fvck baseball.) we can't just throw up our hands and give up. The money the "haves" are taking in can't sustain itself forever.
People actually showing up to games is on the decline, the cost of paying athletes will cut into their profits and if it gets too top heavy, a lot of people will tune out and lose interest all together. Inevitably, corporate sponsorship will become less and less.
