Biden was on the national stage for decades too. Yeah, his gaffe's were well known, but they were also already working against him. But he also had some pretty damn good foreign policy chops.

The Dems only did what is smart politically, for once...but again, this was McCain's fault. And if you're going to trying an claim that it was not conventional wisdom that the choice of VP is considered the first major decision of a presidential candidate you're hopeless.

It is funny because in my mind I like to have preconceived notions of what people sound and look like in real life. I remember about 15-20 years ago getting an irrate phone call from a client who sounded a lot like Pee Wee Herman. The guy made a few threats of whipping my butt and I almost told him to come down and bring it but I resisted. I met the guy a few weeks later and he looked like he could play offensive tackle in the NFL. I kindly shook that giant paw of his (the size of a baseball mitt) and thanked him for being a client.
