Is attendance down for basketball?
I got this letter yesterday from TSF:

Did you miss seat selection but would still like to upgrade your seats or add additional seats? Well you're in luck! We still have a limited number of great seats available. If you would like to upgrade or add seats, please give the Tiger Scholarship Fund Office a call. We will be able to assist you over the phone or to set an appointment for us to visit with you, even at your home or office.

The 2014-15 basketball season will be here fast. Playing teams like Cincinnati, SMU, Houston, Oklahoma State and defending National Champs UConn, we need all Tiger fans to make the FedExForum the hardest arena to play in the American Athletic Conference!

Please give us a call at (901) 678-2334.

Go Tigers!!

RE: Is attendance down for basketball?
I don't know but according to the recent NCAA attendance figures Memphis was top 10 in attendance. Hard to complain ---- but I'm sure some will make the attempt. 03-wink

I saw that. I go to all the games and sometimes those numbers they announce don't match the people there. Could those numbers be tickets sold?

2012-2013 Memphis #18 294,044 16,336
2013-2014 Memphis #18 290,183 16,121

... slightly down. Almost insignificant.

yeah, announced attendance is generally always sold, which also includes the teams, band members, cheerleaders, students, etc... though different places use their own formula for what they announce

RE: Is attendance down for basketball?
It's all how you look at it.

2013-14 attendance excluding exhibitions: 16332
2012-13 attendance excluding exhibitions: 16377

2013-14 games over 18K: 5, Louisville, Gonzaga, SMU, Temple, UConn
2012-13 games over 18K: 2, Louisville (cheaters), UAB

2013-14 games over 16K-18K: 1, Cincinnati
2012-13 games over 16K-18K: 9, So Miss, Houston, UCF, Loyola, ORU, Marshall, Samford, Harvard, Tulsa

2013-14 games 14-16-K: 10
2012-13 games 14-16-K: 6

2013-14 Lowest attended game: 14021 - Lemoyne-Owen
2012-13 Lowest attended game: Austin Peay - 15249

So we had more games that were sellouts or close 5 to 2 than the year before. Most of this was due to a better conference schedule. The mid-range part 16-18K was down dramatically from 1 game to 9 games. The Lemoyne-Owen game was one of our lowest attended games in the last few years. If that one was replaced with a different opponent then our average attendance would probably have been up. The Temple game also had under 15K people at it but that game was at 8:30 on Saturday night.

If we can increase by 1000 we will be top 5. I saw where Creighton averaged 17K. With McDermott gone that number is bound to go down.

With the way downtown is about to get with the police situation, having early Saturday games might be a good thing.

A bit more historical reference to attendance, as reported. Trends and national rank comparison. Since 2003-2004 season. Click image for larger, easy to read view.

My point is that I got several emails about the reseating and considered trying to move closer to the center but was busy at work last Friday. But I have never gotten an email after the fact saying you could still move.

Bizarre thread title. Seems kind of negative given that we are top 10 in attendance.

I'm thinking it's the new regime. They are doing things differently now. I got an email as well.

yea..There is a hint of underlying crap in the thread...nothing unusual about that.

Anyway I was looking at how much the capacity varies between stadiums...Syracuse holds 33,000. KY holds 23,000 Louisville 22,000+, UNC almost 22,000, UTK 21,678, Villanova 21,378, Mizou about 19,000 while USC's capacity is 818.

Our Forum holds 18,119.

Maybe he should ring the office. Someone might still let him move. Internet has its flaws...as we all know.

I've decided that Fridays are the worst days for email, either that or everyone is too busy partying.

If you go to the games you know attendance is down.

It seems several folks in this thread want to pass judgment yet don't attend the games.

I sit in section 211, row A, seats 5 and 6.

Some of you folks are just a tad bit too paranoid. But what else is new.
