There were 2 versions where Texas left.

In 2010, we got in.

In 2011, according to Oliver Luck, we didn't. The only thing I knew about that one was that UCF was involved, and we weren't.

The real question is will we ever be ready ? I have serious doubts about this fan base and it's willing to work toward something like this. We are so far behind ,and things are just too quiet on Normal. What is your gauge on things ? Don't you think we need some kind of endeavor to be actually be happening by now.

Contrary to popular opinion, the fan base is not the determining factor in whether we are eventually successful in our quest to better our conference position, revenue, etc. It would be nice for fans to come out in droves and significantly increase attendance, but, like most fan bases, once you get past the core base, attendance depends on casual fans, bandwagon jumpers, so to speak. The only way those show up is if we win.

Same goes with contributions/donations/fundraising. The core base and major boosters provide most of the funding, until winning increases contributions from less involved fans.

So, the onus to improve our lot depends on the football program to win, with or without better attendance, and also falls on the admin to do the things necessary, both publicly (facilities construction) and privately (behind the scenes politics) to get us where we want to go.

Those things are happening. Whether it ends in success is yet to be seen, b/c it's a hard hill to climb for every non-P5 school, but Rudd, Bowen and the boosters are doing what has to be done, for certain.

Good to know.

Hell, we've been trying that for years, so to speak. But it's not exactly like P5 conferences are dying to admit some non-P5 teams. They know where we all live, too. Only 3 have made it to the current configuration, since the BCS was formed in the 90s.

The other 4 conferences are going to force the Big 12 to go to 12 schools and hold a championship game.

Except if the ACC's proposal gets passed in August, or whenever (highly likely), then a conference can create a CCG without divisions, and/or without 12 teams.

I absolutely agree that the other conferences are going to force the B12 to play a CCG, but passage of the ACC proposal will kill that incentive for the B12 to expand to 12 teams. They will simply play a CCG with 10 members.

the success it has and they are stuck in a diluted b12.

I don't know. Texas has probably one of the easiest paths to a championship than almost anyone. Beat up on the the lower teams in the conference and beat OK, and they are pretty much guaranteed a playoff spot every time. They have all the power in the conference, and they ain't hurtin for money at all.

A&M has to get through a much tougher conference and the chances for them to win the SEC is pretty hard. Hell they have to get past LSU just to win their division. Then they gotta get past whoever is coming out of the SEC East. But on the other side of the coin, they are out from under Texas shadow and they are making a lot more money.

Probably why Texas doesn't wanna expand the Big 12. No championship game to have to worry about, and usually only one team that can challenge them in the conference.

This is the primary reason I just cannot understand why teams want to get into the $EC. You play a murders row of teams, get people hurt, become physically drained, just for the opportunity to BE IN the NCG (which you still aren't guaranteed), to play a team like Fla. St. who has a relatively easy schedule in the ACC. I think it's just plain silly.

The very reason FSU chose the ACC over the SEC.
