Screw Miami of Ohio, they're awful and they don't draw at home, how many fans are they going to bring to Ryan Field, 1-2 K at best. WIU will bring more for a price of only $350K and Western will probably give the Wildcats a better game than Miami will anyway.

Plus, wasn't it a fill in game anyways? Both needed opponents and NIU is trying to play the bigger conference teams. For NW it's a win-win, they paid a smaller fee and will see increased sales over many other possible week 2 opponents.

For NIU, they are at a point where they may take smaller pay checks to continue to play big conference teams and increase their footprint. Makes it all the better if they take the check and the W.

With the lack of Saturday home games in DeKalb this year I am sure NIU's AD is happy to offer the Huskie fan base a Saturday game within a short driving distance.

I'm pretty positive this is why Frazier flipped the Wake game for it.

To put it in perspective...
Ohio at NU 20,115 (without NU students on campus
NIU at NU 35,114 (without NU students on campus)
Penn St at NU 24,395
#14 Wisconsin at NU 33,859
#25 Michigan at NU 47,130
Iowa at NU 34,550

NIU gave NU their 2nd largest attendance over for the season (which included #14 Wis, Iowa & PSU) and that was without school in session.

NU and U of I should schedule NIU every 2-3 years, it makes sense. Too bad cowardice gets in the way of logic.

Oddly enough in 2010 the game attendance of NIU at UofI was not impressive at all.

We were their 2nd lowest attended game of the season behind Purdue. Actually the SIU, Indiana(HC) and Minnesota(coming in at 1-9) games all had 2, 3 & 5k respectively better attendance than our game.

I know I was unable to attend because of the DMB concert at Wrigley Field that weekend so I guess that could have kept maybe 1k UofI and NIU fans away from the game but I doubt much more than that.

In 2001 the crowd for the previous UofI/NIU matchup was about the same as vs NU and better than vs #25 Louisville so moved up 1 spot. Dear God they were ranked #7 at bowl selection time and our game was within 5 points.

Just buy the cheapest tickets and sit wherever you want. That's what I did for the Ohio St/NU game last year.

I don't know where visitors sit anymore. I think it's NE goal line area, with end zone (SE) being non-season ticket. Guessing the end zone will have plenty of NIU fans.

I'll be in those groups. I don't plan to sit alone.

Any NU savy people know if inventory will remain high for this game a month before the game on stubhub (mainly looking in that 110-116 area) Id like to wait a little bit to see if prices drop, but not at the expense of having nothing to choose from.

The new visitor sections are
134/135/136
234/235

ALSO I am fairly sure that it is not known what sideline NIU will be on yet because NU is able to pick before what side they want for the game. I have no idea what the deadline is for NU to announce what side they picked.

FYI that is the new NU student section...but the classes wont be in session yet so I don't know who would be sitting around you.
