We are often times our worst enemy.

Agree. Until ECU proves it can beat competent teams, 8-4 seems more realistic.

ECU- can beat competent teams. Just not competent teams with low attendance. ECU gets up for big games and has let downs in small time venues. In games with at least 40k(one exception 38) team record was 7-1. In games with less than 25k in the stadium the team was 2-2.

I also voted for 8-4 season. @Tulsa, @Temple, @USF are games where attendance will lag and team will have trouble getting up for the game. @temple and @USF will be similar to playing @Tulane(big stadium, few fans). @Tulsa will be similar to playing @marshall(small stadium with good team, some fans)

I find this argument made by fans of any program not just ECU’s to be ridiculous.

In one breath it’s said that a team is championship caliber and should contend for a title (a stance I have no issue with, people love their team and they are entitled to their opinion), how they are gritty and tough enough to match up with top competition, yet they are worried about playing teams with poor attendance because the team can’t get up for those games.

Championship caliber teams beat weaker opponents if there are 50,000 or 5,000 in the stadium.

If the team has issue getting up for lesser opponents that draw small crowds it’s time to take a hard look at your coaching staff. It’s their job to be sure the team is ready for every game regardless of the opponent or crowd and put together a game plan to take advantages of your teams strengths, the opponents weaknesses, and put the game away early.

Is this just nothing more than pre justification for losing to a lesser opponent? The old “well we were definitely the better team but it’s the fault of the opponent for having poor attendance as to why we lost” as opposed to manning up and saying “They kicked our ass, plain and simple”.

I’m sick of hearing fans of the “power programs” in the conference making excuses when they play a program like Temple. When they lose (and ill admit it’s not often) it’s always for reasons like “we can’t play in front of small crowds”, or “we don’t get up for weak opponents”, or “we were looking past them to the big game next week against a quality opponent”, ect instead of “they just beat us plain and simple, today they were the better team”.

People ask me how Temple football will be this season and I say I hope and expect them to be better but coming off a 2-10 season that’s impossible to predict. What I can say is they will play hard on every snap and they will ruin someone’s seasons next year by keeping them out of a bowl game or knocking them out of the championship hunt, the question is which team will it be.

Excuses are the crutches for the untalented.

I put 10-2, but could definitely see 8-4 or 9-3. I see at least a loss to USCe or UNC and one to UC or UCF.

Some ECU fans may have high expectations but this isn't the SEC West folks. UCF just won the whole thing in year one with a roster of CUSA recruited players. Now Louisville is gone. There isn't a game on the schedule that ECU can't win.

I've said it in a few different places and evidently it isn't common knowledge given the expectations that ECU will beat UNC; but UNC has the potential to be scary good this year if a leader emerges on their offense. Their QB can play, so can their RB and their WR's are decent, but they don't have a vocal leader from what I've been told. If they find one the ACC better look out, and anybody else on their schedule.

And ECU returns much of the same team that dropped double nickles on that UNC team. They'll be better, but so will ECU. I expect the Pirates to win that game at home.

7-5 or 8-4, 5-3 or 6-2 in conference. I'm not going to predict who their losses will be against. They'll be pretty good, upper half of conf. for sure.

ECU's record in 2014: 11-2. The losses will be at Virgina Tech and at South Carolina. ECU will beat UNC, run the table in the AAC and win their bowl. 04-cheers

Brand our Future! Select the name you like!

Please take the survey “Branding the New Poll http://philliptbsh3.wordpress.com/catego...p-25-poll/

ECU The Gridirons Great G5’s of 2014 (TOP 25) Introducing # 4 [/b] http://wp.me/p4wbqJ-pH

CUSA Football Countdown, Monday June 23 - July 5, 2014[/size]
Here is the link to take the survey: CUSA Rank: http://wp.me/p4wbqJ-oS

Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone that has stepped in to help and express my appreciation to those that have participated in the polls, surveys and the blog. It has absolutely exploded, we have over 150 survey takers as of this morning (10:00 am). I hope you will allow me a moment to share a little insight into the blogs history.

I will have to admit the poll that is being posted on the blog NOW, “The Gridiron’s Great G5 Top 25” was originally voted on by five people, myself four CUSA members and an ECU fan, three were from ODU and one other poster, this goes back eight weeks ago. The blog has metamorphisized into something we did not intend or expect. We now have over 100 people planning to take part in the NEW weekly poll to début in August and have pollsters from all five conferences from across the country. We have over 300 hits a day that view the blog and currently have many different aspects other than just the ODU blog. We are looking at an option of breaking the poll off into a separate page/blog and revamp it just to better serve the five Conferences (SBC, AAC, MWC, MAC and CUSA). I appreciate everyone’s participation from all five conferences and would like to invite all members of the SBC, AAC, MWC, MAC and CUSA and others to become a part.

As I have said to others we will not disclose any participants or voters information ever on the blog or any board.

We currently are preparing for a feature that will give information about the potential finish of SBC teams. If you have not taken part in the survey please take a moment to do so, it is fast and easy. See above for link.

The polls are fast, easy and take just a moment. We need your help.

Become a pollster for the NEW Top 25 poll, for more information….
http://philliptbsh3.wordpress.com/great-...poll-2014/

There are many different areas to the blog feel free to look around and participate in any of the surveys or polls.

RE: Predict ECU's 2014 football season record
Losses at USC, home to UNC (payback) and UCF because they are the defending champions. UC is a push game. I Have watched ECU for over 30 years and we just do not have the total package to go 11-1 against this OOC and conference schedule without some serious breaks going our way. The offensive line is unproven, the RB stable is not proven behind Hairston for lots of carries and the defensive backs are not shut down corners. That is why they had a lot of tackles last year. The safety positions are also up in the air. I will say this, I think if Carden does go down to injury that we have a very capable backup.

As Coach Holtz had stated. the team has a life expectancy of one year and each year is different. I cannot wait to see how this year unfolds.

Heard their new qb is pretty damn good. He led them flurry of wins after against pitt, odu and others

It wouldn't be "embarrassing" if we lost to UNC, considering I think they are likely to be very good, they have a buy week leading up to the game, and they will be looking for revenge for the smack down we gave them last year. They got a lot better as last year went on, and handled a pretty good Cincy team in the bowl. Not that I don't think we are capable of beating them, but I think it's gonna be tough. I think of the 3 P5 games VT is the most vulnerable and the most likely for us to win. However, there's not a game on the schedule I don't think we can't win, even the USC game I think we have enough talent to give them a real scare.
