On Pomeroy, Lebo's teams are usually decent in offensive efficiency, and usually medicore to poor in defensive efficiency.
He doesn't stand a chance in this league.

West is best for Memphis. You always want to play in your natural recruiting footprint-Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma is a strong footprint to recruit from especially since Fuente has experience in that part of the Country

This is why I don't understand the excuses they make for Lebo. Sampson got a former MAA in no time at Houston and a decent class that is better than ECU's. I don't hate ECU just Lebo

RE: Personal Opinion: Memphis will benefit from being in the West
I'm attentive enough to realize that someone's string is being pulled in this discussion just to watch them jump, but the Lebo to Fuente comparison is interesting, but difficult.
Jeff is 10 years older and has 16 years experience. He was a head coach at TN Tech, UTC, and Auburn before ECU and Justin wasn't a head coach prior to Memphis......and I think that it's fair to say that the AAC is a tougher football conference than the Ohio Valley is a basketball conference.
The only real comparison is that they are both in situations that are like pushing a ball up a pretty steep hill, but I do admit it's entertaining watching folks jump when the strings are pulled.
...and on a side note, there aren't any bowls that you can buy your way in, which is why Jeff was in post season play :)
Back to the thread title, I would have been OK in the East or West. We have history with programs in each division and the west keeps Justin's TX connection, but we've got some very good history with some of the eastern programs.....Cincy/ECU/etc.

You have to have a winning record to buy your way in. A bowl games requires the same. I think it is a fair comparison.

We have a lot of potential and Fuente seems to be pulling things together. Our problems in football are more related to lack of leadership, emphasis and priority over the years - coupled with having been stuck for a long time with a big dufus for an AD. The big donors are waking up and the football program seems to be receiving more and more attention. If the new emphasis holds, and Fuente is the coach many of us hope he is - good things are ahead for the Tigers.

Memphis is 0-9 vs UCF in conf games so just not having to play the Knights ever year is practically a free W for the Tigers.

Pretty feisty for a fan of a team that almost had its entire best season ever ruined by the hapless Tigers. You got lucky in the last two minutes. Twice. Try to be a little more humble. It doesn't hurt.

I watched that game. UCF didn't get lucky. Good teams don't always find a way to win, but bad teams almost always find a way to lose. I know that to be the case, because I have watched enough ECU basketball games and Chicago Cubs baseball games to see a tide turning. That fumble at the end of the game was caused by helmet to helmet contact, but truth of the matter was that the game should have never come to that to begin with, because I seem to recall Memphis having a decent cushion before that play ever happened.

Memphis record over the last 3 years:
2-10 (1-7)
4-8 (4-4)
3-9 (1-7)
Those look like bad teams to me. And if kids had been on those teams during that 3 year stretch, then they are use to losing which is a very hard culture to change for a coach.

I look forward to playing the "yankee" teams, but do prefer being in the west where there is (1) less travel for us, (2) longer history with the teams and (3) the schools have more name-recognition and tradition.
The younger fans on this board, who have no idea how strong Tiger football has been at times in the past will be in for a shock as we begin to fulfill our potential. In the old days, we were handicapped by (1) the near impossibility of playing in bowls or on TV and (2) the stupid negligence of football in favor of basketball which began after the 1973 championship game. Not so anymore.

Well at least when we win and get to a post season then we will have earned it and not pay our way like ECU does in basketball. Truely pathetic
