As a member of the committee which selects graduation speakers for our university, I generally object to political figures unless that person is a current representative of our university's location. So the current US Congressperson for our district is welcome. The two current US senators that represent our state are welcome. The current governor and lt. governor are welcome. The current President, Vice-President, or any cabinet member is welcome. Other politicians are welcome on our campus to take part in the numerous speakers series, but not as graduation speakers.
