one time when I wrote a post and referred to Georgia State as GSU, everyone jumped all over me saying that GSU was Georgia Southern and not Georgia State.

Well somebody needs to tell the Sun Belt website, because on the websites front page they have GSU, Georgia State, golf finishing 22nd at NCAA Championships.

If GSU is Georgia Southern then whoever wrote the article needs to be informed of his mistake and the Sun Belt website should have corrected it.

Maybe the website is right, and the ones who jumped all over me were wrong.

You are right. GSU is Georgia State, GS is Ga Southern, as per each school. Now whether fans adhere to the policy, that can't be helped, but you're first inclination was correct.

Thought this was settled months ago.

No one should use GSU or GS, it's too confusing to posters.
Just my opinion, but still think should at least use GaSt and GaSo
to clearly identify. Doubt many will agree, but seems to make more sense.

Welcome to the Sun Belt, where our biggest identity crisis is getting people to call us by the correct acronym.

But using GSU and GS is too confusing. Bet less than
half of the posters know who you are referring to when
you use those initials.

Tell that to some of the posters. Watch replies sometimes where they obviously think the post they are replying to is from the other school's fan.

Goes beyond the casual fans not knowing. Sure most posters know the posters that are on a lot, but many fans of other schools do not always post on the same thread that GaSt or GaSo posters go to. I inform them sometimes when they make a mistake and I notice it.
But pretty evident that most posters are not concerned.

Exactly so who cares. We just saw a beat writer make the mistake and confuse the two schools WITHOUT acronym involvement. Win big at this level and everyone will know your name.

I'm an old Georgia Southern College fan that was at GS when we first started football. Then we became "G"eorgia "S"outhern "U"niversity or GSU in the 90s. I have a lot of hats and polo shirts that say GSU on them. I dint here a peep out of Ga. State fans until they started a football team & maybe rightfully so. But in all truth they were GSU before Grambling State University or Georgia Southern University.

Still for old timers like me its hard to give up the football reputation that we worked for (played for 8 NCs, won 6 & own most of the playoff records in FCS). Still I guess I can handle the GS on this board, but with other boards the term GSU means Georgia Southern University by our football teams reputation.

And if someone said ASU right now, who would that be?
