Why do you like your favorite school?
Is/was it the home town team? Is/was it your alma mater and/or the alma mater of a friend/family member? Do/did you simply like a coach or player? Is it because of a fond childhood memory (Like going to your first game)? Do you like the school color(a ), mascots, and/or name? Or do you like your team for another reason?

In short, why do you like who you like?

RE: Why do you like your favorite school?
It's local, family graduated there and I remember Curtis Martin tearing it up. Became a fan around 95 and a die hard around 2007 when I started getting season tickets.

I am a native Floridian but I have spent a significant part of my life in Upstate NY. I had many friends that attended Syracuse and I spent a lot of time there when I was in my late teens. I remember a group of my friends and I spending time at SU trying to run into Venessa Williams when she was first voted Miss America. We were too stupid to realize that she was fulfilling her duties as Miss America and wasnt even at SU then.

I follow the school because of some great players and good times and it is the unofficial State School, even though its a private school. Its close enough to me so that I can attend at least a couple of fb games and a few bb games every season.

RE: Why do you like your favorite school?
Plenty of family graduated from Clemson, starting with my grandfather and now going four generations. I would imagine it comes from being from a formerly agricultural family.

I had planned to go to Clemson, but Newberry was going to give me a partial ride for baseball. Essentially had to have both knees rebuilt after crashing a dirt bike between my junior and senior years in high school, and Newberry changed my athletic scholarship to an academic one. Between that and a scholarship from my church (Newberry is a Lutheran school) I graduated with little debt. My mother was a widow with two sons (My father was killed in a wreck in 1982. Last Clemson football game he witnessed was the Orange Bowl) and I knew there was little hope my brother would earn a scholarship so I was able to save her the burden. He ended up attending Winthrop, which is one of the four schools it seems my blood family attends (Clemson, Newberry, Winthrop, and The Citadel)

My late grandfather was a member of IPTAY since the late 1950's, and served as vice president of our county Clemson Club twice. Growing up we went to most of the games every year, including the bowl games. Even while at Newberry I rarely missed a home game. This was before TV set the game times and with Clemson kicking off at 1:00 and Newberry mostly playing night games I did a lot of double-headers.

hometown team and always respected the way jimmy ran the program/style of play. and it is nice having an administration that actually knows how to run a successful program. That is something that gets overlooked by cuse fans and taken for granted.

Plus i respect the class that always seems to come out of that school. in 2003 AND 2011 syracuse was the lone BE school that didn't file a lawsuit.

1) Legacy
2) Grew up with late Cremins in basketball, O'Leary/Hamilton/Godsey/Fridge in football, and Garciaparra/Brown/Veritek in baseball.
3) I like the idea of a major .edu with no BS majors with no real world value that is also good at sports
4) I like the idea of being an elite athlete AND an elite scholar
5) Anybody who has encountered UGAg fans and isn't one themself is a proxy GT fan whether they know it yet or not

RE: Why do you like your favorite school?
I love Virginia Tech for many reasons: the great people I met while in school there; the beautiful campus located high in the Blue Ridge mountains; the great education I received; and the passion Hokie fans have for their football team. Anyone who has attended a football game in Lane Stadium--especially against a rival like Miami--knows what I mean. Two marching bands, fireworks, the roar of the crowd when Enter Sandman cranks up and when our Bud Foster defense stops 'em on third-down---it all makes for an unforgettable spectacle!

Florida Atlantic because I went to school there.

Florida State because I have family that went there and a whole side of the family that is split between UF/FSU. So I grew up with that rivalry.

RE: Why do you like your favorite school?
Born and raised in North Carolina in the Winston-Salem area. Parents went to WF so they were natural ABCers. All of my family hates Carolina. Sister went to Duke and other sister to State. I recognized greatness at an early age and became a Tar Heel fan from an early age. I remember crying when Carolina lost to Marquette in the 77 championship game at 5. I would have attended UNC, but I moved to Missouri my junior year of high school and attended NW Missouri State to stay close to girlfriend (dumb move, but different story). I am a Tar Heel fan because my blood is Carolina blue!

RE: Why do you like your favorite school?
I was born in Indiana. As a child I lived in Gary, IN., Geneva, NY., and Toledo, OH. before my family settled in Louisville. I am a Louisville fan because I went to UofL. Now my children attend UofL and I send a donation to the university every year.

Being a Louisville fan in the 60s and 70s was easy for me because of the racial hatred that I grew up around. UK fans followed UK because they were white. If you followed UofL you were labeled a "N*gger Lover". Having dark skin it was easy for me to root for Louisville. Though I am not black I looked more like the Louisville players like Phil Bond than the white boys like Jay Shidler that played at UK. After UofL won its 1st title in 1980 I was told a by UK fan "the only reason Louisville won was because their "n*ggers could play ball." I am sure most Louisville fans have similar stories.
