I know Western Carolina has said they will normally only play old BCS schools because they had run up a deficit in the football money as of a couple of years ago. So they play Alabama this year, and someone said they just signed up to play Alabama next year also, have not confirmed that last game. So they will not play us right now if we were to ask them to, which I do not think we have.
Marshall usually pays IAA schools anywhere between 350-400K + plus travel and hotel. Most schools have to take the travel and hotel out of the pay of the school they are traveling to play.
But again no one with playoff hopes in IAA was even going to think about coming to Huntington this year. We will have a Top 5 offense a Top 15-20 defense and our special teams are decent. Our punter avged 43.6 yards last year with 27 inside the 10 and 14 of those inside the 5 (5 coming in the bowl game against Maryland). Punt returners avged 22.1 yards and our FG kicker was 18-21 with a long of 42.
Marshall has a legit shot at going 13-0 in the regular season and playing in the Peach or Orange Bowl. We should show up on Phil Steel's Top 40 countdown tomorrow at #19.

See that's why Western Carolina would not play MU or App because of the money when they get more playing Alabama. Of course they do not care about losses because they have only won one or two games a year for years. And you would crush them. WCU really needs the money though. Will only play for most money.

Westerns last winning season was 2001. When they went 7-4, since then this is their record:
02 -- 5-6
03 -- 5-7
04 -- 4-7
05 -- 5-4
06 -- 2-9
07 -- 1-10
08 -- 3-9
09 -- 2-9
10 -- 2-9
11 -- 1-10
12 -- 1-10
13 -- 2-10
Since 2002 WCU is 33-100. The awful record starts with facilities. Except for the field turf Whitmire Stadium looks the same as it did when Marshall last played there 1995. Heck it looks the same as it did in the 80s. When you don't upgrade facilities people pass you by.
That's their biggest problem right now. But lets not kid ourself. Western has never been that great. As a matter of fact since Western stated playing football in 1931 Bob Waters is the only WCU coach to have a winning record at 116-94-6. Westerns overall record is 316-477-23 or a 40% winning percentage.

Which makes no sense them playing Alabama this year, and some have said they recently signed up to play Alabama next year. That proves it is just a money game, because Western Carolina Catamounts say they need every penny they can get. How do they even run a program if former BCS teams stop playing FCS teams if Western Carolina cannot run a football program without doing that.

Im not the ones saying it. That would be Athlon, Street and Smith CBSSports, Paul Myerberg and Phil Steele.

If the AQ schools quit playing and paying IAA school altogether I think you will see many, up to 50 or so move down to DII or cease football operations. I could see 2-3 Southern Conference members in trouble, most of the Patriot League, esp G'Town, the whole NEC and everyone in the Big South except for Liberty and Coastal Carolina. When your total athletic budget is under 8 million dollars (Majorty of IAA schools entire budget runs 6-9 million) and your football budget of that is 2-2.5 million and 850-900K of that is coming from one game a year. Then some thing has to give.

By posting it, you have said it.
Your SOS will not be in the top 80, with the talk of this offseason being SOS their is no chance at a BCS bowl.

If the AQ schools quit playing and paying IAA school altogether I think you would find a tremendous amount of schools go down to Division 2 or cancel football altogether. Many of those schools already have a huge proportion of their budgets paid for on the backs of their students also. So would not be like they would be able to compensate that loss.
