Houston, Louisville, and UCF? Sounds right IMO. As far as the two new comers Tulane and ECU for next season -- nope.

Is there any sport that Louisville isn't at the top in the conference? Hate to see them off to that pampered world in the P5.

We will have a new coach next year. Our performance this year was unacceptable.

Don't be too certain. You guys just resigned Lebo. Oh wait, I forgot, sucking in basketball at ECU is "acceptable." 03-wink

Football, track, golf, and despite being tied with UCF for the regular season baseball title, UH has a better RPI and a better chance of hosting a regional.

Sure, they'll make the cash, but I wouldnt be surprised to see them struggle to reach eclipse 7-5 next year in football. I've seen the early top 25s and they're no where to be found. ACC basketball is obviously no joke either, so say goodbye to those 30 win seasons.

Just ask TCU and Utah how they're loving P5 life. From powerhouses to cellar dwellers. UL already drew good crowds, so they'll see no real benefit there. If anything, the increased propensity of losing will drive away the average t-shirt fan.

When you're one of the winningest baseball programs in college baseball history, not making a regional is not acceptable.

I hope we hire Cliff Godwin. Our hitting has been terrible and with him being a hitting coach should help. Plus he could be great head coach.

If not him Roger Williams. We need to start bringing in the East Carolina alum back to campus to get things running. Has really worked with Ruffin McNeil and see no reason why it could not for baseball.

I disagree. I really believe that Louisville will be the next "bad ass" school to raise up from the lower ranks. There is a history for this. See Florida State, Miami, VT and a few others in their time. I think this is Louisville's time.

Miami? Assuming we're talking about football, I 100% agree. 9 wins is the ceiling, with a whole lot of 7-6 and 5-7 seasons.

This is what baseball America had as of May 7th for the American

REGIONAL HOST: none
SAFELY IN: Louisville, Houston
ON THE BUBBLE (IN): Central Florida

UCF could have firmed up its at-large credentials with a series win at Houston, but the Knights dropped two of three, then lost a midweek game to Florida Atlantic yesterday. That midweek loss dropped them from No. 40 to No. 48 in the RPI, keeping them squarely on the bubble. But if they win six of their last eight, they can land inside the top 45, and that should be enough for an at-large bid given their strong conference showing.

RE: So who makes the NCAA's in baseball?
Here's what Boyd's had as of today. Their predictive RPI has us only needing 1 more regular season win to clinch a top 16 RPI. Thus, I don't take a projection seriously if at this point in time it doesn't have us hosting a regional. If we were to go 2-2 or worse to end the regular season, then sure, but at this point, it would be a massive snub. It also has us clinching a top 8 RPI if we win out. A sweep of Temple is possible, Rice will obviously be tough.

Houston Regional
1. Houston Cougars*
2. Oklahoma State
3. Dallas Baptist
4. SE Missouri State*

Miami Regional
1. Miami of Florida
2. Alabama

Here are the overall results (thus far).

Men's Cross Country: Louisville
Women's Cross Country: SMU (Louisville finished 2nd)

Women's Soccer Regular Season: UCF (Louisville finished 2nd)
Women's Soccer Conference Champion: UCF

Men's Soccer Regular Season: Louisville
Men's Soccer Conference Champion: USF

Football: UCF (Louisville finished 2nd)

Women's Volleyball: Louisville

Men's Swimming & Diving: Louisville
Women's Swimming & Diving: Louisville

Men’s Indoor Track and Field: UConn (Louisville finished 2nd)
Women’s Indoor Track and Field: SMU

Women's Basketball Regular Season: UConn (Louisville finished 2nd)
Women’s Basketball Conference Tournament: UConn (Louisville finished 2nd)

Men's Basketball Regular Season: Louisville and UC
Men’s Basketball Conference Tournament: Louisville

Men's Tennis: USF
Women’s Tennis: USF

Women's Golf: Louisville
Men's Golf: SMU

Men’s Outdoor Track and Field: Houston
Women’s Outdoor Track and Field: SMU

Softball Regular Season: UCF
Softball Conference Championship: Louisville

Women's Rowing: Not decided yet

Baseball Regular Season: Not decided yet, though UCF/UofL will likely finish #1/2
Baseball Conference Championship: Not decided yet

Louisville has finished 1st in 9 of 24 (37.5%) championships that have been decided thus far. If you expand it out to a 1st or 2nd place finish, then Louisville has placed in 15 of the 24 (62.5%). Louisville hasn't dominated everything (the American is too good of a conference for that to happen), but I'd say we've been pretty good across the board this year.

Houston does have a better RPI but that does not mean they have a better chance of hosting necessarily. Houston is in the same geographic footprint as TCU and Rice. Rice has a better RPI and is winning their conference at the moment. It is likely going to come down to either Rice or Houston and different projects have different predictions as to who will serve as host.

New coach and new QB is why we aren't in the Top 25. I think UofL probably will finish somewhere between 8-4 and 10-2 next season but that is just one man's opinion.

It is what you do in the tournament that matters, not how many wins you pile up over the course of the season. Furthermore, I don't see the ACC as being any more challenge than the old Big East was and we did just fine in that conference.

(05-12-2014 10:27 PM)Kronke Wrote:  Just ask TCU and Utah how they're loving P5 life. From powerhouses to cellar dwellers.

So would TCU and Utah rather be back in the MWC with a crap TV deal, poor bowl choices, and the possibility of being left out by the P5? It is easy to look at short term performance ad say "see they failed" but just because TCU, Utah, and WVU are down at the moment doesn't mean they will stay down forever.

Rice has a better RPI and is winning their conference at the moment and I don't see the NCAA giving hosting rights to both Rice and Houston.

Quote:Last year was the first time since 1995 that no regional was played in the state of Texas. But things look to be back to normal this season, with five Lone Star State teams in the RPI top 20. Combine those five schools -- Rice, Houston, TCU, Texas and Texas Tech -- with neighboring states Louisiana (Louisiana and LSU are both in the top 20) and Oklahoma (Big 12 co-leader Oklahoma State), and there's a logjam of hosting candidates in a compact geographic area.

In the interest of geographic diversity and minimizing travel costs, the NCAA is unlikely to have more than five regionals in that area. Louisiana, Rice and TCU all hold at least a share of first in their conferences and are in the top 15 in RPI, making them the safest bets to host at this point.

Oklahoma State jumped into the RPI top 30 with a sweep of Arizona State over the weekend. I detailed the Cowboys' case for a regional last week, and the jump in RPI solidifies their case.

Texas and Texas Tech both dropped weekend series and fell into a fourth-place tie at 11-10 in the Big 12. That eliminates them from the conversation for now.

That leaves Houston and LSU in contention for the final hosting spot in that region. The Cougars and Tigers have similar records against the RPI Top 50 and 100, but Houston is nine spots higher in RPI. That's enough of an advantage at this point, though LSU could easily move past Houston with a series win against Alabama this week.

Rice and Houston are less than five miles apart, but the NCAA has put multiple regionals in the same metro area before. Last season North Carolina and NC State both hosted regionals and super regionals.

To add to that article that was written this time last week, we are now 12 spots ahead of LSU in the RPI.

If you are praying and dreaming for this scenario to happen, keep at it LOL because we will compete in the ACC for football titles, basketball titles, baseball titles, soccer titles, golf titles, softball titles, etc, etc. Something we have been done throughout our school's history.

BTW is there not a sport we don't OWN Houston in?

Rumblings that USF will have a new manager as well. There is way too much talent in the TampaBay area and our facilities are among the best in the country for this program to be consistently mediocre. Louisville fans were right about Prado. Great guy, program builder but can't get your program to the next level.
