Like this doesn't happen at other universities. Alcoholism in this country is an epidemic, and not just with college-age kids.

130 over a 3 year period. Let's compare that to Madison and U of I or any other scholl besides Wheaton College. What happened to journlaism? How about some comparatives, then you can complain about the number of incidents. I was on the other side of the media has it in for NIU aurguement, but now I am starting to see that other sides point.

it was wrong on ch 5 to single out niu. it would have been a more accurate story to attack the drinking problem across the board. This is not an niu problem only.

It is even more dangerous in a college fraternity setting when hazing is involved. It is not unique to NIU.

To me it seemed like the family really pushed for this segment, not NBC, but that is just my opinion.

I would think they'd sue the fraternity before they sued the school, but I could be wrong. Did the frat suffer any consequences from this, or is that still ongoing?

They have sued the fraternity at this point.

"Pi Kappa Alpha has received a temporary sanction removing them as a recognized student organization. The university is moving forward with organizational sanctions which may impact their permanent status as a recognized student organization."


I thought I remember a more recent article/statement from NIU saying that the fraternity was banned from NIU but I can not find a link.

The fraternity charter was revoked. Pi Kappa Alpha no longer exists at NIU. They may have received a lifetime ban from NIU, but I am not certain of that either way. The chapter house, owned by their alumni group, which has been sitting empty for 3 semesters, is listed for sale.

Ya know, I'll bet there are a lot of people at NIU who overeat. Maybe the media should do a story on that.

I am also sure there is more than a ton of sex on campus. The students engaging in sex are not married, so the media should blast NIU for allowing sex outside of marriage on campus.

NIU is SUCH a bawdy campus, filled with immorality and wanton debauchery. Glad I went there!

How about we take a look at the top party school list to see if they have more or less incidents than NIU. I would love to see that list.

It's refreshing to know that this stuff only happens at NIU, and that you can go to all the other schools and they are a paragon of virtue, with the students all pure as the driven snow. No drinking, no partying, no crime, the sun always shines and all the children are above average.

On the flip side could this party school perception help get more students to enroll at NIU?
