Will the games look different on TV than they did when they played in Chicago?

I think this is a bold and brilliant decision for the Big 10.

it is a no brainer for a conference that is so dependent on federal funding for many of its big research projects.

Just like how the Rose Bowl is a massive schmooze fest, so will be that game. There will be conference tournament games there for football too if we as a conference are able to get to that point.

I see you still haven't learned how federal research works.

I agree that it will only work if its something like once every 5 years. More than that and it upsets the original home region where most of the schools are. Less than that and it doesn't build the conference's profile in its newest home region.

Closer to sea level, so the three point shots will be ...
... nah, just kidding, it'll be exactly the same on TV.

That's right. Maybe the biggest benefit of the basketball tournament location is the hope for drooling local media coverage -- "OMG the Big Ten is here! The Big Ten is here!" -- and DC is far more provincial than NYC so you're much more likely to get that kind of coverage there.

Nah...I grew up in the DC area and I know people not affiliated with these teams will lose interest after the novelty wears off. All that being said though, I do believe there are enough grads of Big Ten programs in the area to make it work.

Though if they don't overdo the rotation they may be able to avoid the novelty wearing off as fast as if they moved the tournament to DC on a permanent basis.

Maybe. I know that the last time the NCAA Tournament had a few games in DC (2011) that it was a real stinker. I don't believe they sold out 1 game and there were more empty seats than filled seats for all the games I watched.

It even featured two schools that have sizeable alumni bases in the DC area (Pitt and ODU), as well as Butler who had just come off a National Champ appearance...yet there was litte buzz about it from any local media. Just more mindless talk about the Redskins.

There is too much else to do in DC and the area has too many transients who are interested in things outside of sports.

This east coast push could backfire with traditional big ten fans. It is bad enough to add 2 schools that the Midwest schools had no interest in what so ever, but now they want to play the conference tourney in DC? Which is close to nothing in the big ten except Maryland.

If you are going to throw the far east teams a bone, at least put in the middle of those 3 teams, like in Philly.

How will this be different from watching on tv from Chicago? You can tell from all the empty seats in the background.

So was WVU jumping to The Big 12 at the time. Consequences for every decision.

From Indianapolis Star (One of the Big Ten's Mouthpieces)

9. West Virginia in the Big 12. It all seemed like a reasonable idea back in the fall of 2011. The Mountaineers were on their way to their 10th straight bowl appearance, a Big East title and a 70-point effort against Clemson in the Orange Bowl, with a rising star coach in Dana Holgorsen. They even looked fantastic halfway into their Big 12 debut season in 2012 … and then everything collapsed. Since opening the 2012 season 5-0, capped by the WAC-style thriller against Baylor, West Virginia has gone 6-14. It even lost to Kansas and Iowa State last year within the conference, on top of a 37-0 embarrassment against Maryland. Holgorsen is still a bright offensive mind, but his time as a head coach may be nearing its end. That doesn't mean the long-term West Virginia/Big 12 marriage can't work, but in hindsight, we're left to wonder if the conference would have been better off inviting Louisville.

Louisville will get exposed in the ACC in a similar fashion, no offense, CardinalJim.

Or do you really think Louisville will be top 10 this coming year?

Louisville will be a fine fit for the acc, they have a solid athletic department. Insinuating playing one conference tournament one year in dc, which is down the road from a new conference member, is similar to adding a team to a conference that is close to 1000 miles away from its nearest member is simply uneducated. If you are just saying it could be a bad idea, then yea you very well could be right.

Heard it when we left The Missouri Valley. Heard that when we joined The Metro. Heard again when we helped form CUSA. A few years later we were warned not to jump to The Big East. Every time UofL has changed conferences it has been successful. We don't expect the move to The ACC to be any different.

I think in the past 100 years you've had maybe 2 or 3 major bowl victories and no national titles so I'm sure you guys will continue that 'success' in the ACC, I agree.

The big prize in the ACC-B10 maneuvering in the east is still gonna be MSG. That needs to be locked up once the NBE's contract is up, and it'll need to be done for like a decade or more.

ACC needs to be all over that like an Iowan with a stick of fried butter!
