For example, when it was Tupac and those guys they were actually from the ghetto and were talking about things that happened to them etc in the same way as the blues back in the day. Today however, much of the rap music is simply about pointing out that you have more money than some other person and the people you want to buy your stuff. There isn't any serious artistic or literary value in that. There was in some of the older stuff, and even some today.

Rap music today is largely the musical equivalent of porn.

It's totally dependent on what kind of rap it is. The genre is pretty diverse as far as style is concerned. Outkast might not have the cleanest language but they aren't misogynist, violent, over the top obscene, they don't even talk about money.

The two styles you're talking about is that New York after 1990/West Coast after NWA (I would go as far back as Ice T, but I don't think gangster rap was that popular then).

I'd say that the really questionable stuff fell out of favour when Kanye, Lupe Fiasco, and people like that came on the scene.

I'd say rap got really bad when groups/people like Big tymers, Cash money millionaires and Juvenile stepped on the scene. I actually liked that/still do. It's horrible but catchy.

When it actually started to suck was after about '02, in my opinion. It still sucks except for the occasional underground artist that hasn't made it big yet, ex. Wiz Khalifa until 2011.

http://rap.about.com/od/hiphop101/a/hiph...line_3.htm Pretty cool timeline of hip hop.

Basketball is about as boring as it gets. Synchronized swimming and dressage (dancing horses) are pretty bad. And I doubt I'd ever be glued to my set watching iditard races. And you're right, there are plenty as I can name a lot more.

Basketball and baseball are great live. Few things beat a beautiful day at the ball park.

Curling is a great sport. During the Olympics the Mexican Curling team got disqualified because they were using leaf blowers. 03-lmfao

Could be one of the few things.

I enjoy Pro-Hockey, football and baseball live. I also enjoy ECU football, basketball and baseball live (as well as minor league baseball). Only sports I'll watch on TV are college FB or Basketball when there's an exciting game, an occasional nfl/nhl game, or the olympics.

I guess that's a fair amount. Wont watch most pro-sports on TV or NBA in person (boring).

Going fishing trumps everything except ECU football.

Hockey is probably the single best spectator sport extant. It has speed, finesse, skill, violence, and you never know if a guy is going to score until the red light behind the goalie comes on. Great sport.

Yep. Even though my team was swept this year. I'm so sad.

Hockey is also extremely fun to play. Not to get all John Kerry on y'all but I dabbled around in the sport a season or two (or 6 before moving to a podunk town with no hockey)...

The sports with the greatest satisfaction of playing vs watching for me are:
Playing hockey>>>>watching hockey
Playing baseball>>>watching baseball
playing golf>>>>watching golf

Football and basketball are much more fun to watch in my opinion. Probably because I suck at both of them. But they both do have absolutely awesome top plays. A great chip shot/putt is exciting too.

Who's your team? Mine is the NJ Devils and the NY Rangers, but I don't get many games televised where I live. If I get any games at all they come from Fox Sports West and they cover the Kings, Ducks, and Sharks.

I've played hockey and football. And attempted to play basketball, but "white boy ain't got no 'J'".

Nothing in the world compares to playing hockey.

My avatar. The Tampa Bay Lightning.

I use NHL Gamecenter to watch all of my hockey games. For about $10 a month, I get to see almost all 82 games of the regular season.

The fact that anyone cares about this is a sad commentary on America. IMO... We are putting way too much importance on such trivial things ..while really serious schit is going down. Maybe that is just the way it is planned by those in power....keep everyone entertained and comfortable slaves. I wonder what would happen if everyone decided to start paying attention and ignore the static thrown at them?07-coffee3

OH...in regard to the above derailment of the OP?....ALL sports are fine viewed live. Why? You are not confined to damn TV set. Regardless of how clear the picture is...or how good the commentary is...ect..ect..ect...NOTHING is as good as being there in person.

The OP was stupid. The derailment improved the thread.

I've played hockey, football, baseball, whip softball, and golf. Hockey is great - expensive, but great, and I still have all my teefers, but my shins have a bunch of bumps from taking too many shots (defenseman) because the pads back then weren't as good as the pads now. I hated basketball. Always did, always will.

I kept my old skates lying around for years (CCM Tacks) until the wife threw them out. I'm still pissed.

It is a rare thread around here that doesn't get derailed.

I played defense as well. Laying down to block shots... always terrifying. I took a couple pucks off the ankle, which probably helps contribute to how easily they get injured now.

Still have a couple of my sticks and my set of skates. If there were any skating rinks around here, I'd go skating again, but the nearest rink is practically in Nashville.

I've seen today's skates and pads. I used to fear ankle shots, with today's skates I probably wouldn't even feel them. But $900 for a pair of skates and $200 for a stick is insane. When my kid got into hockey I thought it would put me in the poor house. Thank god he gave it up.
