Future Mid-Atlantic FBS Conference
At this link

http://gohens.net/boards/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16824

you will see discussion of the following potential futute Mid-Atlantic FBS Conference:

Now, maybe this (UMass' withdrawal from MAC) might open the door for a new FBS conference.

UMass- from MAC
Temple- from AAC
Navy- from AAC
Army-Independent
JMU- CAA
UR-CAA
Villanova-CAA
UD- CAA
Buffalo-MAC
W&M-CAA

Seems like a viable conference, close proximity, probable rivalries, close enough academics.

UMass contacted UD a bit ago gauging interest in a newly formed Mid Atlantic conference

I do not think UR has any plans for FBS. Villanova would probably need to use PPL Park in Chester, and W&M seems unlikely but I personally would like to see them involved.

Hahahahahaha. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the room for Buffalo, Temple or Navy proposing this to their board of whatevers "Guys, guys, guys...we have this amazing opportunity to leave our conference and play football against 5 FCS schools and two of the worst FBS schools!. This is a can't miss opportunity!"

RE: Future Mid-Atlantic FBS Conference
The problem with any such conference is that it any new conference has no NCAA tournament automatic bids, no bowl tie-ins, and no tv contract. No way any of those schools, several of which are in conferences that have each of those, are going to leave for an entity that doesn't.

Yah! And Richmond has agreed to let ticket holders bring their own folding chairs to get to FBS capacity!

RE: Future Mid-Atlantic FBS Conference
Pie in the sky. The fabled new east coast conference could happen one day, but I don't see it happening any time soon. I think a new conference first have to have 6 members from a current conference move together in order have an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. On the football side, the new college football playoff has already decided how to split revenue among the current conferences so this new conference would be locked out.

There are other possible members within the East Coast geographic footprint.

How viable is the future of the AAC. Plus, Temple may not be able to use the Linc after 2017 and may be looking at an existing (PPL Park?) or new stadium on their Main Campus that the AC may deem unacceptably small.

AAC may not be viable long term. Buffalo may prefer this Mid-Atlantic Conference to the MAC. NCAA mya in fututre relent on such a new conference, especially one that could inlcude 5 current FBS members, including Army & Navy.

No, but I don't know what difference that should make.

You would if you were around the old CAAZone. Was a blowhard, humorless, know it all type. Absolutely impossible to have rational discussion with.

Would love a conference such as that. Definitely don't think UR and W&M are interested in FBS though. Also, I don't believe there is a provision that allows FCS schools to join anything other than an existing conference. So maybe if 6 current FBS schools formed a new league, our schools could join them year later?

The chance of W&M doing what is necessary with respect to facilities and financial commitments for FBS is extremely remote.
The chance of Richmond doing the same is virtually nil.

In all seriousness, bluehenbill. did umass call begging to form a conference, or was there serious discussion between at least half of these schools?
I also think a minimum of six current fbs programs would be needed to form a new conference. I only count five.
