Rice has as many road wins (12) as some of the teams above it have played on the road (#2 South Carlina 4-4, #6 UH 6-2).
Or put another way, Rice has more road wins than South Carolina and UH have combined. Rice has as many road wins as South Carolina, Kentucky, and LSU combined!
So at least we are battle-tested if we go on the road for Regionals/Supers!
Heck, there are only 9 teams in the country with more road wins than Rice. And after Louisiana Lafayette, Oregon is the only one close to us in RPI, at 28.

It's why the regular season is still far too young for people to be given serious discussion to national seeds and regional host. Many of those teams around us in RPI (e.g., UH, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas Tech, South Carolina, LSU) are not yet road tested, and half their conference slate yet to be played. UH got a very lucky hand as all the Top 100 AAC teams they get at home this year (e.g., Louisville, UCF and Memphis). South Carolina has played just 2 road series so far this year (vs. Kentucky, Arkansas) and lost both, and have remaining road series against Auburn, Georgia and Vandy. Good luck with that!

RE: Baseball Polls: w/o April 14th
A snippet from the Rice Owls Game Notes:
Quote:Take A Closer Look
Rice has 12 losses, but a closer look is in order. Five losses were to teams that were nationally-ranked when the Owls faced them. Another one of the losses was to a streaking Sam Houston State team that went on to enter Baseball America's national rankings that same week. Five losses were by a single run, and one of those was in extra innings. The final margin in seven of Rice's 12 losses has been two runs or less. Consider that the Owls have had a number of the its star players, including Jordan Stephens, Zech Lemond, Shane Hoelscher, Leon Byrd and John Clay Reeves, all sidelined at various points during the season.

Yeah, what bugs me most-- and I've been going back and forth with Kendall on this via twitter-- is his failure to factor in SoS, road record and injuries in his most recent analysis of Rice...yet now that South Carolina has suddenly had a couple key injuries, he's all over that.

Looks good to me, although I'd rather we get TCU and Sam to draw better crowds. Regionals are usually a good sell tho anyway. May get to go watch some games at UH too!!

This is why there is hope for Kendell. He may not be the greatest baseball mind of his generation, but he busts his ass promoting and covering the game. I respect that. I also respect that if someone presents a case to him that points out his errors or misconceptions, then he is not too prideful to realize the error of his ways. He hasn't been in the business long enough to be "independent" of thought, so you have to remember he works for Perfect Game and with other Perfect Game people. So, when Walt relentlessly points outs inconsistencies via Facebook or Twitter, Kendell may not publicly acknowledge them, but they seem to get incorporated into his future works. This makes Kendell more credible and his work may be quite early, but it is interesting. I always look forward to his evolution of the tournament field. I haven't really digested his work as a whole, yet. But, I like what he did with the teams from the state of Texas.

+1. However, 13th, I do think Kendall, moreso than Aaron Fitts or Eric Sorenson, gets suckered in by comments of a bunch of coaches who use him to sell their program; Whiting being one of the most blatant.

He isn't the only working media that plays favorites with Coaches and their staffs...

I'd rather be paired with #1 (ahem) seed Texas than with ULaLa. While I think we could handle ULaLa if we played halfway decently, I think being paired with Texas would give us a better shot at hosting a Super.

Oh, I disagree big time at that one. ULaLa obviously has talent, and are one of the Top 5 hitting teams in the country statistically, but who the heck have they played or will they play come the post-season? They're 34-4, but have played to a #155th ranked Strength of Schedule. They're only quality wins are a sweep of USM the 2nd week of the season when USM was playing like Little Leaguers, and a home series win vs. Alabama, and a mid-week win vs. LSU.

It was a general comment on the Horns' seeming inability to win at home in the postseason since 2005.

Here's another projection out today, from chasingomaha.com, which has us as a regional host paired up with national seed Ole Miss, and with Texas Tech and the Aggies in our regional...and UH paired up with UT...
