Or because the writing is on the wall that Temple screwed up the coaching hire last time and they can't afford to fix that situation. Temple is cutting the budget considerably, possibly about to be priced out of its home football stadium with not solution in sight, and the President of the University recent stated that the school intends to be "mid-major."
It screams of a situation in which nobody should have any confidence, IMO. It is bad all around.
You do realize this is an article about basketball? Screwed up the coaching hire? You mean the guy who came in and turned a program that hadn’t gone to the NCAA in 5 seasons and in 1 was back in the tournament and has before this season went 6 straight years?
Wow, one bad season and the program with 6th most wins all time with 9 wins against top 25 opponents 5 against top 10 opponents in the last 7 seasons gets forgotten about.
I don’t have a problem with it, hope Temple is picked by the experts to finish dead last, it will give me that much more to look forward to.

I hope for your sake you are correct. He had a pretty good player transfer out to Ohio State of all places (it isn't like they are a slouch), a very bad first season in the AAC, and an administration that doesn't seem to be supporting athletics.

That’s something I don’t understand and maybe someone can explain it to me (not trolling, it’s legit).
Temple cut 5 sports, baseball, softball, mens gymnastics, indoor track, and spring track all so they can funnel more money toward football. With the football crazy fans on here I would think they would be encouraged by the fact that Temple made some difficult cuts to help better fund its football program.
Instead, I see “Temple cut sports, they aren’t committed to athletics”. Temple didn’t reduce the athletic budget, they just cut sports that were a drain on the budget. If Temple wasn’t committed to athletics wouldn’t it have made more sense to just cut football which is the largest drain on the budget which many in the media would have justified and not deal with the fall out?

That is something that remains to be seen. Since they are honoring the current scholarships then they aren't going to save money immediately. In 4 years if the budget is the same then essentially they did cut the budget... while everyone else was increasing their spending Temple was cutting theirs. Time will tell I guess.
When you start hearing of these kinds of cuts I wonder what is really going on. When UC did it I was concerned as well. UC has since reinstated their cuts to non-revenue sports. Hopefully Temple doesn't fall of the face of college athletics, but when the stadium issue doesn't appear to have a good alternative solution, to go with the other statements made by your President, I'd be scared that they are just to the point of giving up on a power 5 invite and just happy competing with a lower level of schools athletically.

The scholarships are being honored, but that is just a small percentage of the cost. Travel, insurance, facilities maintenance, ect are all much more revenue intensive then the scholarships. On top of that I don’t have hard numbers but I would expect most of the student athletes especially the first and second year players to transfer since they are immediately eligible.
The stadium issue is a smoke screen and if you don’t understand local PA and Philly politics it’s easy to misunderstand. Temple is negotiating in the media about this stadium situation is to accomplish one of 2 outcomes. First to get the state politicians involved to strong arm the Eagles ownership into giving Temple a reasonable deal on an extension at the Linc. Or to float the “the Eagles are being unfair and gouging Temple we have no choice other than build an on campus stadium, the Eagles are the bad guys” play, (there is a lot more to it than this but you get the idea).
The current lease is through the 2017 season, PPL wont be an option and Franklin Field won’t happen for more than a season max while a stadium is being finished. The President has had stadium on the brain since he took over, some in the media say he’s too committed to athletics.

Not usually as deep as the AAC. And next year the bottom only gets deeper, unfortunately.
Article pretty much nailed it --- we have some real worries going forward in the "bottom half" >>
That puts even more onus on the other core four of Connecticut, Cincinnati, Memphis and SMU to carry the league.
The Huskies and Mustangs likely will start in most folks' top 25 thanks to the return of Ryan Boatright and DeAndre Daniels for UConn and the addition of Emmanuel Mudiay for the Mustangs.
But it’s not those four that the conference has to worry about. It’s everyone else. In order for this league to be viable long-term, it needs other teams from the netherworlds of the basement to get better.
The article could easily be written about football as well, just with a few name changes. I can't argue with a thing the writer said.

I find it funny when she says, "In order for this league to be viable long term..."
As if "viability" has anything to do with basketball whatsoever. The old Big East was the best basketball conference in the country but ended up not being "viable" at all. That's why we are where we are with the AAC. Football determines how viable a league is these days, not basketball.

Temple deserves to be in the mix for a tournament bid next season but no one is going to give you that after last season so that is fine. I think our roster is good enough to get in the tournament but we will wait and see.

It's just disrespectful to not even mention us, especially for someone with Big 5 roots who has covered many of our games and knows our history of success.

If you actually think AAC football is on par with AAC basketball as far as national respect, history, and actual results --- than I suppose it could --

How long until they homogenize? The playoff committee has already sought basketball counsel on recusal. How much more is in store...OOC away/neutral site games, injuries, latest winning streaks...?

This is my feeling exactly. Hopefully this just adds more fuel to the fire and while I’m not a big fan of the players listening to what the media has to say about them this off season is an exception. Temple needs to get back to playing with a chip on their shoulder and hopefully this past disaster of a season along with being passed over without even a mention in pieces like this will be enough to add a little mental and physical toughness to this group. Time will tell.

I honestly think the conference is primed for great things and the glass is more than half full. We have four schools to anchor the conference. Three more that have some pedigree and or are primed for success in the near future and the bottom four are all schools that have shown a commitment to and desire for success. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, we are a conference of determined schools. Underestimated and written off and we're going to shove that entire turd filled crow sandwich right down the P5/ESPN's throat.
