ND spring game at 12:30 Eastern today---televised on NBC Sports
It is on DirecTV channel 220, and wherever NBC Sports is located, if anyone is interested.

ND just announced that they are installing Field Turf at ND Stadium in May ( they are currently installing it at the baseball stadium).
That will cause a firestorm of outrage among diehard traditionalists, especially at Rock's House on NDNation. Com.

What next - replace the incandescent lights with florescents?

Probably playing 8 ACC football games instead of 5. ;-)

From reading some of those posts it sounds like the field had dirt patches. I know ND fans will bi*ch and moan for a while but they'll get over it. They don't have a choice as the decision has been made.
The reality is this. Certain institutions and organizations have more tradition than others, but things change for everyone and everything. It may take decades and generations, but that change is inevitable.

Some of the comments on the NDnation board amaze me. They talk about the installation of Field Turf as somehow diminishing the ND Brand. No, IMO, the "ND Brand" is diminished when they televise their spring game today and it is being played on a field that looks worse than my backyard now after having gone through a tough northeast winter. IMO, THAT should have embarrassed these folks. I am sure recruits noticed.
Some of these people have to realize that it is not the late 1960's and ND cannot just snap its fingers to reel in all the best players in the country.

THE HORROR!
Ridiculous that something like this is even a blip on the radar at a northern school.

Well, all will say is that we seem to at least have a B-5 level quarterback this year. An entire season without one didn't go well last year.

27,986 ND fans at the spring game today. That is pretty good considering that ND fans are from all over the country, not mostly locals.

Say what you want, but ND fans are more into discussing Field Turf and Jumbotrons than TV contracts and conference realignment.
Those are the issues that matter to the "traditionalists". There are thousands and thousands of them.
I happen to think that Field Turf and video boards are ok. But to those others, it is the end of the world.

Yes, perhaps you can find another Russell Wilson or Mike Glennon and return to the glory years.

Yep, first partial membership with a fixed five games a year that the ACC decides upon.
Now Field Turf.
Next will be Video Boards and/or a Jumbotron.
It's all falling apart.
The End of the World must be coming.
Cheers,
Neil

You know, I just read this article interviewing BYU about the possibility of D4 for the major conferences and a thought popped in my head (one of the first in years, obviously). Now, I don't disagree with the notion that there is virtually no chance ND joins up full time in football the way that we understand college football currently, but, I could see the scenario where they might consider it if it meant that Navy was otherwise going to get left out and Navy was pushing for a lifeline. This goes back to their historical debt to Navy. If the P5 would break off, and pretty much only play each other, than Navy would be relegated to de facto 2nd class citizen whether ND plays them every year or not. If the brass at the academy engaged ND to try to avoid that fate, I could see ND joining up for 8 ACC games in order to shoehorn Navy into the ACC, as a permanent rival, and thereby preserving their rivalry and rescuing their status as a major college football program. Of course, the complication is then what would happen to Army and Air Force, two games Navy is not going to drop from its own schedule? But would ND go to such lengths for Navy in that hypothetical?

Holy hell, ND. You played your spring game in the sandlot and some fans are stupid enough to complain about artificial turf? That's gold, Jerry.
