RE: Diversity JMU compared to Liberty
For the record I'm a Virginia Wesleyan guy and a huge ODU football fan. I have no idea why my question was (quickly) shuffled to the smack room, it's a legitimate question when discussing which school are like minded, and would be good FBS mates. I picked up on those numbers while in the ODU forum after JMU2004 posted them. It caused me to do a little research. I was stunned to find out that 20% of the students at Liberty are black, 42% are minority, and 57% are female. Those numbers at a right leaning conservative University caught me by surprise. I was getting ready to change my mind about wanting 5 Virginia school in the FBS. Some of you guys had me beginning to believe I was wrong about Liberty.

JMU2004 pretty much admitted JMU has a diversity problem, not I. I only researched the numbers to see if he was right.

I've said this before, I'm pulling for JMU to the MAC (you hear that JMU2004) and Liberty to the Sun Belt. I would like to see someday UVA in the ACC, VA TECH in the SEC, ODU in C-USA, JMU in the MAC and Liberty in the Sun Belt.

Sorry I hit a nerve fellas! Have a great day!

Its an online school. Their on campus demographics look nothing like that. Maybe the female part.

You're guessing. I checked a couple more. These numbers are much more in line with Liberty than JMU?

No I am not guessing. Ive been to Liberty. Most LU grads if they are being honest would tell you it is no where near the number you are claiming on campus. Your numbers said 60k of which only 12k are on campus. Drive around campus and take a look for yourself. Not a good number if you look at actual kids on campus. Even if the numbers were accurate which they are not, Lynchburg has a 30% AA rate compared to 6% in Hburg and 4% in Boone. As I have already said it is very hard to get minorities to attend a school where they are the super minority community wide. Just a fact.

I bet a LU poster can come up with some actual on campus numbers for us.

I attended Liberty on campus and I can confirm that the numbers ODU BLUE provided are accurate. In fact, if I had to guess, there were more African Americans on campus than 20%.

Like I said even if it were the case there are 30% AA in Lburg but only 20% at LU. Do they now have a diversity issues?

Stupid argument with no merit. Look at the local population. The vast majority of the time your student body is going to be similar.

RE: Diversity JMU compared to Liberty
Dude, you have some serious Liberty hate if you are working these arguments. Anyone who has spent much of any time on LU's campus will acknowledge that we are much more diverse than most colleges. In fact, we are exceedingly more diverse than most private schools. We have been intentional about trying to make our student body look more like the diversity we expect to see in heaven someday. But we admittedly still have a long way to go.

RE: Diversity JMU compared to Liberty
I dont truly feel Liberty has a demographic issue. Just giving this ODU fan something to think about. Calm down there partner. He was the one that tried to play the non diversity card and per capita of the local population there isnt really the difference he thinks there is.

I understand it is damming to your argument but I doubt Liberty would lie on their own webpage now would they?
