It's the only numbers you guys haven't compared. We were looking at them in the ODU forum. JMU seems a bit lopsided for a state funded school?

Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.

Quote:Only 4% of the student population at JMU is black, which would be about 680. I'm thinking over 20% of them are athlete. Not a very good cross-section of Virginia for a schools that receives state funds.

85% of your students are online. It's tough to tell how diverse Liberty really is.

I swear, ODU fans will do anything to disparage JMU.

I hope you go around posting about VT's diversity on ACC boards.

Yet JMU fans continue to feed the trolls...me thinks this one wants to be fed fried chicken.

RE: Diversity JMU compared to Liberty - chiefsfan - 04-11-2014 02:32 PM

Diversity is a useless statistic in this situation. I guess if JMU were heading into CUSA or the AAC with all of the Sprawling urban schools, it would be a much bigger deal. But for the SBC's purposes, the majority of our schools are very similar to JMU.

He's not serious...just being a troll. Which I believe is now a major down in Norfolk.

We have a very hard time getting non Caucasian kids to buy into our Climate and activities. We don't have any urban activities. We are well known for Bluegrass music and Moonshine. Hiking, Climbing, Camping are all very popular in the area. All these activities are disproportionately done by whites. JMU suffers from many of the same issues in that regard.

If that's him trolling, then he needs to improve a ton in that area.

Statesboro is also 40% African American per the most recent census. Boone and Harrisonburg are not. It is easier to talk an African American undergrad into attending a school where they are not in the super minority in the community like Boone is.

of course there are outliers, especially in the South. Georgia's state populations is 31% African American. Virginia is 19.7%.

Anyway, this is a pointless thread that I should never have been sucked into. JMU has made huge efforts to increase diversity on campus, and the effort is ongoing.
