RE: Two high profile UH basketball players trying to transfer
Losing players due to coach hires is part of the game, im not worried, i want a long term vision, and Sampson brings that.

To me, this sounds like a positive change for college athletics.

Did they start drawing when they were still terrible?
A buddy of mine is an SMU grad, living in Ft Bend county. He claims to have never attended a MBB game while a student. He bought season tickets when the Brown hire was announced and made a number of trips to the big D to watch them play this year. Star power draws whether player or coach.
Well, we won't be buying season tickets to the Owls, but I can tell you the wife and I are going to make a better effort to be out at games now that the cloud of Braun has been lifted. That cloud shouldn't have been an excuse not to go, but we used it. Now, we and many others don't have that crutch. If we want this thing to go in the right direction, the Owl alumni and fans in Houston need to come out and support this thing from the ground up.
Agree completely. I'm guilty of it too. I haven't been in two years. The program needs our support now.

I don't know why we would expect this.
Even in 2012-13, there was a lot of commentary on this board about how hard our under-talented, 8 man/3 walkon roster was playing. Do we really expect Rhoades to do so much better that people will come watch?

Style of play matters. I am not sure Braun's teams would draw well with 20-win seasons.

Daniel House and TaShawn Thomas. I'm pretty surprised. I thought the Sampson hire would rejuvenate that program a bit, but those two guys leaving (especially Thomas) would certainly set them back a bit. I really think though that the lack of fan support is a big reason a lot of guys leave. And even though UH has a lot more students and alums, their basketball attendance sucks too.
As much as it may hurt, Coach Sampson is better off having players that want to be there.

There request has been denied by the University, AD wants them to sit down and look at Sampsons plan for them and then make a decision.

At this point, what does permission matter? They'll have to sit out a year regardless, right?

IIRC, with D1-to-D1 transfers (or FBS-to-FBS transfers in football), a release from the school allows the transferring player to receive an athletic scholarship during his sit-out year -- and does nothing else.

Oh, so you may see a D1 player actually starve for a year?
