Build Idaho a new conference?
Just for fun: Since everybody keeps saying that Idaho and even NMSU will move on at some point, where could they go?
For this thread, lets say going FCS is not an option.

What could their conference look like? I don't have a lot of knowledge about FCS that could potentially move up from a reasonable Western footprint, so I'll start a potential 12 team conference list. Maybe some of you have a better idea. Or even some other out of pocket teams that we have no plans to take like an eastern split?

Once that is done: Assuming we landed JMU as 12 for now. Who would we replace NMSU and Idaho with? Or would we keep NMSU all sports and just lose Idaho?
I'm Thinking MSU would take us back to 11 and the new 12th spot is wide open? Unless we did keep NMSU, then it would be done.

1.Idaho
2.NMSU
3.Montana
4.Montana State
5.NDSU
6. (Cal Poly?)

7. ?
8. EKU?
9. Liberty?
10. Coastal Car.?
11. UTC?
12. Jacksonville State?

IT IS AUGUST YET?

A new conference would have no football distribution unless the NCAA or CFA voted on a new distribution system.
Half of those schools mentioned have not ever mentioned they want to go FBS. Create a new FBS conference and
you just make it harder on the Sun Belt. So why do it?

South:
1. New Mexico St

3. Sam Houston St
4. Missouri St
5. S. Illinois
6. Jacksonville St

Well, we wouldn't be the ones doing it - this is just for fun to look at their possibilities or FBS options. If a new conference is going to form, it is going to happen regardless of how it effects us.

Then, I would figure that the CFB, especially once expanded is going to make more and more money which would cover the extra pay outs anyway.

Some of the schools I listed have received invites in the past (from the WAC I believe) and turned them down. NDSU has to be thinking about it. Those that haven't, will likely be effected by the top teams leaving the FCS which has been happening. True UTC and Coastal have a ways to go, but they are in the right locations to get better imop. EKU? Apparently the are thinking about it? MSU = I sure hope they are thinking about it.

Bottom line is that IF Idaho leaves (which seems to be the overwhelming belief) - they have to go somewhere. That may be FCS, but if that cant be sold to their administration - the WAC could hold the keys to more FBS invites down the road. I don't believe they would be able to highjack anybody from the SBC that we wanted to keep long term, so IF it happened - the question is: What do you think the membership would/could look like?

Aren't we planning on using Missouri State when/if Idaho/NMSU leaves?

S. Illinois an Sam Houston and N. Iowa may be good candidates.
E. Washington could be another based on football performance at least.

Hypotheticals are fun, but bringing up all those schools takes money out of our pockets. No thanks.

Funny, I was going to say the exact same thing. The WAC tried for years not to get WAC'd; but in the end it was no use, no one wanted to join the smattering of schools the WAC managed to cobble together.

Much easier than the other way round. Big Sky should add Idaho and NDSU to become the preeminent FCS conference in the country.

That would be one mother of a FCS conference!
