Since 99.9% of these signees will never meet their $12k deductible, I wonder what they will think when they not only have to pay $1,000 per month for coverage, but also full price out of pocket for their doctor visits and prescription drugs.

Yes, all we need to do is hire all of those unemployed/underemployed doctors and/NP/PA. Or maybe we can convince all of those Liberal Arts students to switch majors....

Think long and hard about that.. I'm not sure I want someone who thinks they know more about me by looking at a piece of paper than I know me.

So what?
Nobody is alleging a "mass doctor exodus," nor does there need to be one for this to be a problem.
A few here, a few there, retiring earlier than they might. A few more university students deciding that accounting or law makes more economic sense will be enough to reduce either availability or quality over time. That's all it takes, a few subtle changes, and a system that was already understaffed with providers will get to a critical point. We can do like the Nordics and statck people in the queue or do like UK and recruit the hell out of third world docs. Neither is appealing.
So we're not going to have a mass doctor exodus tomorrow. That should not be interpreted as no problem.

Your last sentence is complete nonsense. It's outright false.
And Congress isn't working on ****. They simply delayed the doc fix another year. They also delayed ICD10 which will be an even bigger disaster.
BTW, plenty of providers close to retirement are jumping ship. Others will simply not take the crap plans that reimburse next to nothing, just like with Medicaid. Good luck standing in line drones of Obama.

As a practicing NP, I can tell you that we are starting to not schedule follow up visits for patients who HAVE insurance because they aren't paying their bills from their now higher deductibles.
Also, there are several docs going into boutique medicine, but most any doc who is hitting 60 is retiring or cutting way back on their workload due to various government interventions. I know for sure that electronic medical records helped push my uncle into retirement.

The unintended consequences of the ACA have not even begun to be understood. This could have been done right by thoughtful men and women from both sides of the aisle. What we got was a boiler plate bill that had been sitting on someones book shelf..shoved down our throats by a super majority in power. It is a failure from the start. As Owl has stated over and over and backed up with historical evidence. NO large nation has been successful with this type of system. It just does not work well above 40-60 million people. Single payer also does not work with large populations. You basically get a large VA system. The Bismark style systems give the best care, the most choice and least cost in large populations. We missed the boat completely with the ACA. It is going to take decades and untold millions of taxpayer dollars to fix.
It is just going to end up giving more people access to lousy healthcare. That is all. There is nothing to be cheering about here. Nothing.
