Congrats and a tip of the hat
Congratulations to Florida and Kentucky for their making the Final Four and hats off to Tennessee, who was an eyelash from an Elite Eight appearance had they not been hosed by the refs against Michigan.
Once again, the SEC as a whole may not be a great basketball conference, but its top teams can play with anyone.

Its not. Kentucky and Florida making it to the Final Four doesnt all of a sudden make LSU, Auburn, Alabama, South Carolina and the others quality teams. The conference as a whole right now is just bad when it comes down to basketball.

I would not call nine teams with winning records a crappy conference. We should have gotten five bids.

No way. Those teams beat nobody. The SEC is no where near a quality basketball conference.

Missouri beat UCLA, Tennessee, and Arkansas twice. Two of those schools got a bid.

Tennessee was a shot away from playing Kentucky for the spot in the Final Four. With Bruce Pearl at Auburn we could easily see take program take off. Amazing, I think the rise of the Vols and even UGA stems from the fact that Ga Tech has basically ceded its basketball monopoly in Atlanta.

If Florida or Kentucky wins this year, the SEC will have won 40% of the championships in the last decade and 33% of those played in the last generation or so. The Big East/AAC is about the SEC's equal in this regard, and the ACC is just in the rearview mirror. No other conference is close during the last generation. I'm tiring of arguing absurd comments like yours bolded above.

AMEN!!! SEC Haters. Nine winning teams. Everyone can't win 32 games. The SEC had several schools with 20+ wins. As far as the tourney... Big XII... 7 teams...gone. ACC... Gone. PAC 12... Gone... Nuff said.

Every title has been won by Kentucky or Florida. Those programs are solid. Just because you have two solid programs does not mean that the entire conference is strong. This past season the SEC was 4-15 vs non-conference ranked opponets and the record only gets worse when you add all oppoents from major conferences. Kentucky and Florida have done a great job in the tournament but their efforts didnt all of a suddent make Auburn, Texas A&M, and Alabama better. Even SEC fans cant stant to watch SEC basketball. SEC basketball attendance finished the regular season averaging 10,380 fans per home game, which was the conference's smallest since 1984-85. The highlight of the SEC basketball season is National Signing Day for football.

Every league has stinkers. Some are perpetual, and some change (see: Wake Forest). Plus, every conference really only has a handful of teams at a championship level. The ACC has North Carolina and Duke. The Big 10 has Michigan State. The AAC has/had UConn and Louisville. The PAC has Arizona and UCLA. The Big 12 has Kansas. Schools like Arkansas, Maryland, and Syracuse have had runs at different times.

Did you seriously just put Arkansas in the same classification as Maryland and Syracuse? Arkansas has not made it to a Sweet 16 since I was a 5th grader and have not won an NCAA tournament game since 2007-08. Maryland has fallen on hard times but they're nowhere near as bad off as Arkansas has been. Syracuse has more Elite 8 and Sweet 16 appearances in the last 15-years than Arkansas has in its entire history of basketball.

I seriously did put Arkansas there. We are talking championship basketball, correct? The program at Arkansas has as many championships as the entire Big 10 combined over the last 25 years and the same number as Maryland and Syracuse, I might add. They beat a Final Four team (Kentucky) twice this year.
You know what is a good season for a conference? Winning the championship. What gets remembered and placed as the measure of success over the generations in college athletics? Championships. In 25 years, no one is going to care that the SEC had 3 of the top 5 football programs in 2014; they will remember that FSU won it. Take a look at the NCAA website at their "History" tab. Know what it shows? The champions in each sport for each year. Our schools strive to win championships. There is a reason that Kentucky has not beat its head against a wall to be a higher than average football program in the SEC. We can take resources away from other programs, like basketball, to make that happen, but why would we do that? Our job at Kentucky is to bring basketball championships.
So, yes, in the short term of college basketball history (the last 25 years), I absolutely put Arkansas in the same category as other schools that won a single championship. Your young age does not exempt a program from being a champion of the last generation.
