Texas abortion laws
Laws upheld by 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, thus overturning the District Court Judge (Yeakel) who partially struck down the laws in October:
http://www.dallasnews.com/news/state/hea...ctions.ece
These are the laws that garnered some national media-attention for Wendy Davis when she filibustered in the Texas Senate for 11 hours.
I know that 2 of the 3 5th Circuit judges were GOP-appointees (Edith Jones and Catharina Haynes). I don't know who the third judge was.
Now the appeal will either go to the full 5th Circuit en banc or SCOTUS.

RE: Texas abortion laws
Like I said: GOPers love making up claims of pointless and overburdening govt regulation that does nothing but cripple an industry.
then they proceed to pass a series of bills in multiple states aimed at doing exactly that because it's social issue they disagree with......
the GOP is the party of extreme hypocrites

They are common sense laws.
Good for the Circuit.

The GOP is going to control the Senate and the House.
The pro choice crowd will eventually lose the culture war.
These are the times we live in John.

So you readily admit that the abortion mills are an industry, eh? Good to see even a momentary lapse into lucidity. lol.
A backer of killing babies lecturing adults about hypocrisy cause it's an industry. Good stuff.

RE: Texas abortion laws
It's all in the wording. You can get a big majority for either side in how you word the question. I don't think you will ever see the pro choice side lose though. You could make the argument that the GOP would rather lose these type of battles because it won't hurt them with swing voters. Win these battles and it fires up the moderates. Many GOPers loved the pro life movement as a wedge issue and to gotv efforts. Now the calculus is turning though.

Typical conversation with a leftist dolt- you again miss the pertinent point of the post.
So, delete the killing babies part, address the admission that abortion clinics are an "industry". A very, very lucrative industry at that, no? Course you already know that, like everything else you don't know.

It's hard to have an honest conversation about the subject if one refuses to accept that a human dies.

1. can't comprehend the concept that "is a fetus a baby/human" is a matter of pure opinion and not a right or wrong question.
2. the concept of pro- CHOICE and that people support abortion for because of libertarian values or believe that prohibition causes more problems than it solves.

how is abortion clinics being "an industry" a negative? pretty obvious to me that considering the amount of clinics there are trying to downplay it as something other i would have to be removed from reality.
it may not be your typical industry but i really don't see what else you could use to describe it.

I'm personally pro-choice, to an extent, but I don't delude myself into thinking its harmless "choice."

never said it was a harmless choice. abortion is the one social issue where both sides can legitimately claim they have the moral highground.

I disagree. Killing a child is never "moral high ground" and that's is precisely and unequivocally what happens.

RE: Texas abortion laws
Texas is down to less than five abortion clinics that meet the requirements of the Law.
If I were a group of enterprising physicians I would build a First Class medical facility that meets the Texas standards right across the Rio Grande in Mexico.

so not forcing your wills on someone else, ignoring the ramifications of abortion prohibition does not constitute a moral high ground?
interesting logic there dummy. and of course it turns out that you can't understand point #1 either. which doesn't surprise that you can't comprehend a legitimate point like that.
if my deciding that I don't want to force my beliefs on someone else and force them to do something against their wishes that will have life-long ramifications.....
^^^^
if that doesn't constitute being on the moral high ground then I don't know what is.
