Why not?

UMASS as conference mate for UCONN. Plus you get UMASS basketball.

JMU/Temple as conference mates. Just 242 miles apart.

Did you just ask if an FCS school was going to be invited directly to the AAC, a conference that likely feels that it is better than the SBC/CUSA/MAC group? Not going to happen anytime soon.

It's FloridaJag. He's been calling for Kennesaw State, North Florida, and Florida Gulf Coast to be added to the SBC For the last 3 years.

No.

(Here we go again) While the AAC is not expanding, the conference will continue to monitor the changes happening around the conference.

Schools like Massachusetts, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Southern Miss, UTSA, etc... may be reviewed for membership in the future based on any number of needs. There is no need for these schools today.

Trolling works better when you have correct info.
12 teams? for what. Football 2014- has 11 teams 11+2=13
Football 2015- has 12 teams 12+2= 14

O you must mean olympic sports(basketball)
Basketball 2014- 11 teams 11+2= 13
Basketball 2015- 11 teams 11+2= 13

GTFO

1. You cannot count. You have thirteen schools up there, not twelve. If you cannot handle the advanced math of counting, I suggest taking off your shoes next time.

2. Navy will already be playing in the AAC by the time that UMass leaves the MAC in 2016, which (again, take of your shoes if you have trouble with the math) makes 12.

So a conference already at twelve doesn't have to add anybody to "get to" twelve.

If they were to do that it should be UMASS and ODU.

Yes, with a 3 year, tentative start date with the understanding they need to upgrade their facilities, no upgrade no invite

How can you answer yes to a question that asks whether the impossible will happen ... since UMass and JMU would make 13 next season, 14 when Navy joins.

A10 > AAC

Especially with Louisville gone.

I say try for the Sun Belt or go Indy. The AAC would be okay, but the A10 has Barclay's and the ACC double headers in the near future.

From a basketball point of view, the AAC and the A-10 are very close, IMO.

However, I must assume that if the AAC ever expands it would be for football. IMO, the best Eastern/Central Time Zone G5 football teams not already in the AAC are (in no particular order):

- Marshall
- Northern Illinois
- Louisiana-Lafayette
- Rice

I'm guessing any AAC expansion candidates would come from that list

Am I the only one that thinks UMass might just be screwed?

Their football program is struggling and has pretty awful support. With the AAC standing a fair shot at getting the increased payout for being the best G5 conference many seasons, why would they jeopardize that by bringing in UMass?

Would UCONN even allow it?

Would they look only at this year's basketball results and ignore the last 15 years of no NCAA tournaments?

Would UMass fans even get excited about playing Texas, Louisiana, NC, and Florida schools?

I just have a hard time seeing it happen to be quite honest.

No I think it is a real possibility.

UMass doesn't solve the biggest problem the Sun Belt has which is an all-sports member that helps App State travel. The Sun Belt can't add a western Oly member without screwing up travel in the western division and splitting an in-state pair.

The MAC added UMass to get football balance and to get 8 quality non-conference hoop games (4 Temple, 4 UMass). The Sun Belt would get only 4 games and the brand is less valuable to ticket buyers in the south.

Not saying they won't get a football only with the Belt as a fallback, but it is far from assured.
