Its going to be a long off season and even longer once the bb season start up again. I stayed away after the loss for about 4 days thinking the madness would simmer a little bit about then but geez was I wrong

It's just old. I think Pastner needs to advance...but I'm not calling for his head, and apparently that means I'm a sunshine pumper? I mean, I don't think he's done anything to deserve a raise and extension....but what exactly has he done to get fired?

I didn't say he deserves to be fired, but his teams are really hard to watch. I'm 53. I've watched Tiger basketball since I was 7. Even without the highly touted recruits, Tiger basketball has been much better and much more fun to watch under previous coaches (Cal, Kirk, Finch, Bartow).

People on this board are already lowering the bar for next year, saying we've lost all our guards and it's " a rebuilding year".

Memphis is a basketball town. Next year should be a "reloading year", but with Pastner we'll be lucky to get to the tourney.

As far as I'm concerned Josh Pastner is on the hot seat next year. I haven't heard of any contract extensions or raises and I really hope he doesn't get one. The powers that be really need to be making a list of potential candidates if next year doesn't pan out.

I think the point of this thread is that a basketball school has an opening and they are apparently targeting Cuonzo Martin from ut. I think it's a safe bet that our coach won't be fielding a lot of similar calls from other schools who are looking to fill a coaching vacancy.

Sorry, I was referring to zero Sweet 16 appearances. I am really truly sorry we haven't gotten to the Sweet 16 with all these kids who were blue-chippers and McDonalds All-Americans out of high school.

I don't think we'll have to worry about other programs knocking on our coach's door for a while. If our contract was in line with his performance, maybe. But it's not, so I think we're safe.

Martin was within a week or two of being fired as they were about to not make the tournament and his team got a break by playing Mercer instead of Duke to advance to the Sweet 16.

Pastner was not within a week or two of being fired, much to the chagrin of some around here and his team was definitely in the tournament, weeks if not a month ago. If Coastal Carolina had held on to beat Virginia then most likely you're talking about Memphis at least in the Sweet 16 and his name being bantered around at the very least

Sure, Martin benefited from playing "lesser" teams but make no mistake, the shadow of Bruce Pearl's success along with the many UT fans who though he got a raw deal, had more to do rightly or wrongly on why he was on the proverbial hot seat.

NC State was another one.

Martin had a bubble team that got an extremely lucky path. They had a down regular season and didn't do anything in the SEC never really got close to top25. If that's what marquette is setting as their criteria for a coach, so be it.

Also be funny if he left and everyone's favorite pearl would be kicking himself.

NC State was another one.

NC State never offered the job to Pastner. I don't even know if USC offered the job to him officially. They did request permission to talk to him, but that may be as far as it went.
