RE: The refs
Please. The game was called fairly. Saying otherwise is just whining about a loss. The tigers had some me first players. We don't even have a team identity. We did get tougher this year, but at the end of the season, we were regressing as a team. I don't even think virginia looked that good on offense until they realized how soft we were, but they have a good defense. You have to just give credit to virginia for playing a good game. They were the better team.
I still can't figure out how we beat louisville twice this year.

LOL. What did you expect them to say? "This Memphis team is really playing well tonight!"
All the negative comments directed towards Memphis last night were well deserved and I wish people would stop blaming the officiating. Blame the coaching staff. Blame the players. That's where the blame lies.

Yep it was the refs, not the a.a.u. style of play.

Um, what exactly was there to say negatively about Virginia? We made them look like an NBA team last night? I actually like Reggie as an announcer. IMO he simple tells it like he sees it. Had the script been flipped I have no doubt he would have been positive Memphis and negative Virginia. Let's be honest, we did not give them much praise material last night.

Beat them once could have been a fluke. Beat them twice....well, we were a better team at the time.

How can you say that? It would make a big difference in the outcome. One teams confidence goes through the roof because they can get away with anything, while the other can't breath on a player without getting called. Evenly called game and I think we had a chance. We may not have won, but we definitely would not have been run off the court.
I can say that, T, because it's my opinion and I have a keyboard. I think they were the better team. Maybe I'm wrong. If we hadn't missed the point blank shots, and if the refs had called it straight up, maybe it's a barn burner. Unfortunately, neither happened.

That's not how I meant it....figure of speech. They were a better team, that's why they were a 1 seed. However, if the game was called evenly, we would not have been run off the court last night. We may have even had a chance to win....maybe. Did you watch the CC/UVA game? The biggest difference was the refs took over in the last 10 minutes instead of 1st.

Case in point, JJ drives and attempts to avoid contact by going for a difficult reverse scoop layup while contorted....the commentator even mentioned he shouldve went up on the initial side and seek contact instead.
Guards should know this....considering we play 4, they should really know this. Coach should TEACH this as well as he shouldve taught CC to box out. Dude never does...why, because again our players don't like contact.
On coach.
So a senior has to be taught to box out? Are you serious.
No he should know how to box out but he doesn't get yanked for half-arse effort on defense. NOT benching guys all year for poor effort on defense IS on the coach. You don't let that happen continually without consequences. I don't care who you put in, make them play defense. You don't get back into these games playing AAU ball with no defense. Been a problem all year and even last year some but DJ covered their butts for not moving their feet on defense.
Absolutely spot on. You have to use the bench as a reminder of why you play D - you set the tone in the early season cupcake games that if you don't play D, you get yanked and ride the pine.
Pastner rarely does this and it is infuriating. The result is one of the worst defensive teams to ever put on a tiger uniform. And it's all seen as perfectly OK.
with about fifteen minutes left I was screaming to put in Draper McDowell and anyone else from the end of the bench who might show a little pride.
There's a large part of me that will be so glad to see Crawford gone...

Geron's drive where he got pinballed by 3 players with no call, and then a touch call on the other end really took the cake.
That.
I think the refs did a great job by not calling touch fouls on VA on our offensive side of the court, because the whole tournament has had terrible continuity.... with that being said, we didn't get the same no-calls on defense which was the problem.
You can blame the refs for the first few games when you don't get fouls; but you have to adapt, take the ball in strong, and force there to be a call. We don't force the calls by going to the bucket strong, and we are always out of position on defense which makes our fouls easy to call.

RE: The refs
Come on now, the refs had nothing to do with the outcome of the game. How many times are we going to blame refs after a blowout loss? Our offense stinks. It's dribble, then drive, then pass to someone that's not open for a bad shot. Our offense is unorganized with no set plays. No wonder people call our team a bunch of street players or aau players. Top that off with bad defense and that's the recipe for a blow out. Virginia is going to lose to MSU next week and they are going look average.
