The refs
All I have read here is that the loss was because of coach.

What did you think of the zebra's no calls on all those missed layups?

BTW.....Va played good enough to win the entire tourney...IF they keep playin' like they did 2nite.

RE: The refs
They did what refs have been doing to us all season. They allowed the opposing team to rape us when we had scoring chances, then called touch fouls on us at the other end. It's plain and simple. They didn't have to do it the whole game either. Just long enough to give Virginia an advantage in scoring.

Not the reason we lost though. But, if it would have been a close ballgame we wouldn't have had a chance.

RE: The refs
I thought the officiating was very uneven. I really think our team got frustrated with not getting calls in the paint, so they started jacking up shots. I don't think we were even in the bonus for FTs in the 1st half, in spite of the contact allowed under the rim. Unfortunately, when we did get a few calls, we couldn't hit all of our FTs.

This is where I think CJP can really improve, by letting his players know he has their backs and working the officials. I think you would see our team play with more fire...

I saw our players, early in the game, go in for lay-ups or short shots, then disappear surrounded by Va players......while driving the ball pretty hard, makes me think there HAD to be fouls not called.....as for it changing the outcome.....I think it may well have....Had we gotten an early 10-15pt lead, perhaps the entire game changes

Geron's drive where he got pinballed by 3 players with no call, and then a touch call on the other end really took the cake.

Would it have made a difference in the outcome? Almost certainly not. But once the officials set the tone (no calls vs. touch fouls), our bigs were reluctant to aggressively defend and intimidated on the offensive end.

RE: The refs
Tiger players bring the no whistle upon themselves.

Case in point, JJ drives and attempts to avoid contact by going for a difficult reverse scoop layup while contorted....the commentator even mentioned he shouldve went up on the initial side and seek contact instead.

Guards should know this....considering we play 4, they should really know this. Coach should TEACH this as well as he shouldve taught CC to box out. Dude never does...why, because again our players don't like contact.

On coach.

I disagree. I think the announcers didn't point out the obvious. They were pounding us every time we went to the hoop. I think Joe altered the shot because he wanted to make the bucket and knew he wouldn't draw the foul. Just the way I saw it.

Looks like you need to understand the difference between setting a tone (no calls vs. touch fouls) and calling unfairly (no-calls on one end AND touch fouls on the other end).

You're right. It was unfair.

So a senior has to be taught to box out? Are you serious.

No he should know how to box out but he doesn't get yanked for half-arse effort on defense. NOT benching guys all year for poor effort on defense IS on the coach. You don't let that happen continually without consequences. I don't care who you put in, make them play defense. You don't get back into these games playing AAU ball with no defense. Been a problem all year and even last year some but DJ covered their butts for not moving their feet on defense.

RE: The refs
I thought the announcers,(especially Reggie Miller), were very biased. I know we played like crap, but they just kept on and on about us, sticking it to us at every opportunity. I don't recall them saying anything remotely negative about Virginia at all. We were getting hammered when we drove the lanes and no comments from any of them. Really?

Absolutely spot on. You have to use the bench as a reminder of why you play D - you set the tone in the early season cupcake games that if you don't play D, you get yanked and ride the pine.

Pastner rarely does this and it is infuriating. The result is one of the worst defensive teams to ever put on a tiger uniform. And it's all seen as perfectly OK.

How can you say that? It would make a big difference in the outcome. One teams confidence goes through the roof because they can get away with anything, while the other can't breath on a player without getting called. Evenly called game and I think we had a chance. We may not have won, but we definitely would not have been run off the court.
