Made it cool again for Memphis kids to come to Memphis that continued with Adonis, Nick King (gonna be a great Tiger) Austin and (hopefully) the Lawson's.

That's about how much of it I enjoyed too.....what a coincidence!

Joe is 5'9 and listed at 6'0

I stood next to JJ in his senior year in HS and I said to myself and my other AAU coaches that he was just so small and short.

He is wonderful playing against smaller guards and the Little Sisters of the Poor.

JJ is not an Elite Elite player. He's very good but not "Lead my Team to the Sweet 16 good"

Chris Garner is about 5'10.

I don't know for sure, but wasn't Andre Turner about that height too?

I think so and those two were point guards playing the point; JJ was an undersized 2 forced to try to play the point. Then, when that wasn't working CC a nice sized 2 was forced to play the point at times.

JP put together a team without a real point guard. We had four 2s this year and he kept three of them on the court most of the time which left us vulnerable at the 3.

We're thin inside (both physically and with depth), don't have a point guard, and played an under sized lineup. JP put this team together so I guess he had a plan? Not sure why he thought building a team this way would be a good idea.

Next year we'll have a couple of actual point guards but they'll be freshmen. Still need some size and depth for the front court. Another BIG factor will be that next year's team will NOT be saddled with big expectations.

This year's team was considered a threat to advance to the final four; next year I guess we're a threat to make the tournament. Totally different.

Thats not a good thing for recruiting. When you've got Tarik Black leaving for KU..........Adonis Thomas leaving and not getting drafted.........Joe jackson saying stuff like that.........Pastner's top 10 recruiting classes is going to be over soon. Then we'll see how good he really is.

The city of Memphis spoke candidly about immense heartache and letdown they faced as Memphis fans watching Joe Jackson. Said they enjoyed about 20 percent of his college career

How did Joe's career @ Memphis compare to Elliot Perry's? I think, as far as regular season, conference tournament & NCAA wins, they are about the same.

Let's hope that Joe becomes the same type of ambassador for the city of Memphis & Tiger program as Elliot is.

As far as season by season results, they're close. But as far as players, not close.

I'm really excited to see the JJ-free Tigers next season.

The way I will remember the Joe Jackson era 20 years from now, can be defined in one word, loyalty. Joe chose to play for his hometown team when the program was in a transition and there were far more reasons most would've chosen to leave and play for another school rather than to stay. He chose to stay when AAU coaches and "blue blood" basketball programs wanted him to play elsewhere. I've enjoyed watching him play so much, I loved watching him tear down the court for a layup, and draw the foul. I've hurt when he's made a mistake in a game and seen his face show the disappointment he's felt with himself at those times. Twenty years from now, Joe Jackson will remain one of my all time favorite TIGERS

This is most accurate post of this year's team I have ever seen. Totally on the mark!

RE: So in 20 years when we look back at "The Joe Jackson Era"...
Well, we might remember Joe in 20 years. But probably not. We might remember a team lacking for a number of reasons. It lost Black to Kansas and Thomas to a failed idea of an NBA career. We might remember a coach who, for good reasons, ran off a highly regarded big man recruit before he suited up here, only to show up at Ole Miss. We might remember the team that could have been, if all the parts had stuck around. If all that had happened, we might have remembered Joe Jackson differently.

RE: So in 20 years when we look back at "The Joe Jackson Era"...
I will remember a Tiger that won the Conference USA Tournament his freshman year, then won both the regular season and conference tournament championships in his sophomore campaign. Jackson was also named the MVP for both the 2011 and the 2012 Conference Tournaments. We would not have made the "dance" those years without Joe Jackson.

In 2012–13, his junior season, Jackson averaged 13.6 points, 4.8 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.7 steals for a Memphis team that went undefeated in conference play (16–0), qualified for the 2013 NCAA Tournament as a #6-seed (advancing to the Round of 32) and finished with an overall record of 31–5. He surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career, was an All-Conference First Team selection and was honored as the Conference USA Player of the Year.
On February 13, 2014, he was named one of the 30 finalists for Naismith College Player of the Year award.

So? What have you done? I'll hang up and listen...

Good post.
And, the " looking forward to Jackson free era" comment-- Be careful what you wish for.

You are forgetting -at times, the only guy on team who could hit a damn free throw.
- MANY drives to the basket where he scored or had assist with taller man guarding him.
- His heroics in many games i.e. CUSA tourney as Frosh, blocking shot against huge Gonzaga big man, etc

If you had the pressure on you that he had on him, and faced the life struggles he faced, you might be moody, too. Walk a mile in a guy's shoes before you make smart-azz judgements.
