I don't ever recall a time when we overachieve...ever

All of these kids not playing to their potential- no wonder we missed the tournament again.

If only the team could ever beat a team they are under dogs against- like Oklahoma State or Louisville or Louisville.

But sure- dropped to Houston and lost several games by wide margins- so- keep pouring it on because they did not meet your pre ordained expectations- even before the season is over.

I really believe the team did well this year as well as the coach.

Several wins against ranked teams and a good tournament resume against an upgraded schedule.

What I didn't like was the several games where there was not the needed effort especially defensively.

When that Memphis jersey goes on their body, this fanbase expects 100% effort. Win or lose we as a fanbase LOVE the guys that give us that.

The Justin Wimmers and DJ Stephens and the Antonio Andersons will always be remembered in Tiger Lore. Maybe not the most talented but the most willing to lay it on the line.

If I get 40 minutes a game of all out effort I can live with the results win or lose.

In that I think this team sometimes under achieves.

We were a top 5 team in a league that finished with 5 ranked teams. Devastating.

People remember DJ Stephens and company- and I love those guys too- because Will Barton and company really helped the team win a lot of games.

There have been a smattering of short efforts- not good.

But it is not overwhelming and the theme that the Joes of the world do not put in effort is just wrong.

Geron may be that one player who can back up that prediction if he brings his A game He can affect a game like no one else on our team

He is cool and hope he plays well.

If Joe, Shaq AND one other player plays well- Memphis WILL win their first round game. After that- the opponent will be tough enough that even a great Memphis effort may not be enough- but also may.

Geron has had some down efforts this season- as have all the kids- but now is indeed the time to put it all together. And we especially need our best players, like Joe, to play their best.

We didn't finish 5th in the conference. We tied for 3rd with SMU and UConn, with 12-6 records, just as Louisville and UC were declared co-champs with 15-3 records.

The tiebreakers were only for tourney seeding slots.

Not that it matters, but if you're going to make a point of us finishing fifth, then get the facts straight.

I don't like Gottlieb anymore than the rest of America, but he was spot on in this respect, although he transposed UConn and Cincy.

Mississippi was co-champs that year- but it was a simple head to head for who played in the title game and LSU won head to head- and it was football. A different animal.

Memphis tied for 3d yet was properly seeded 5th due to last record between the 3.

Who cares.
