RE: Braun gone
I'm kind of struck by the similarities between Braun and Dickey. Both are roughly the same age and look remarkably young for that age (60). Both are rather small in stature, and both are good people whose tenures in this city didn't go well.

I'm not surprised that UH made the move. I will be surprised (and disappointed) if UH hires its new coach before Rice since we've had a 2 week head start on the process. And it will be interesting to compare the two new coaches after the new hires are made.

Yes indeed. This is why I love watching the first rounds of the NCAA Tournament - - to see teams like SFA, Mercer, and Saint Louis (and yes, Wichita State) beat more talented teams, by utilizing their teamwork, experience, and BALL MOVEMENT. How many simple and beautiful pick and rolls did Mercer score on yesterday?

You played at Southwestern....in Georgetown??

Played there and then worked there--19 years total--until DIII

So you played before the Bill Merritt and Billy Tubbs eras?
I hardly missed a game at the old gym growing up! (and went swimming out back in the summer, after playing 2 or 3 nine-hole rounds)

Billy Tubbs was there my first year--before going on to Lamar and then Oklahoma.
Send me PM so we don't bore the forum with Georgetown history. LOL

As long as we make the right choice, Karlgaard can take all the time he needs, IMO. Especially since our coach has to be better than UH's!

I'm quietly hoping that means our leading candidates are still coaching games at this point in time...

Sampson's show-cause penalty expired last year?

Sampson would seem to be a candidate for an NBA job soon. He had interviews this past off-season after his fairly impressive run as interim coach when McHale had his family leave.

It will be interesting to see how many "burn phones" he will get from UH if he signs.

None, there's an app for that now. Duh.

Dickey was not forced out. It is a legitimate family situation.

Gotta feel sorry for all the UH students that destroy their phones after using one of those numbers.

To be fair - what he got in trouble for is not illegal anymore.

On Rice/UoH BBall front...

There is no excuse for these 2 urban universities being unsuccessful.

I wish Van Gundy would take the Rice job.

Jeebus. Can you imagine a world in which Sampson, Van Gundy, and Larry Brown were coaching in Houston and Dallas? That would be glorious.

No chance of Van Gundy coaching here. He has been asked and isn't interested. The pros are his game.

I presume that's in the last couple of weeks? I wonder if Dr. K asked him to consult on the hiring process?

I talked to Jeff last night. He might be interested in "the right job" at the college level. He is not interested in Rice or UH.
