Coaches Caravan 2014 dates announced.
April 23 - Norfolk
April 29 - Great Falls
April 30 - Baltimore
May 1 - Richmond
May 12 - Harrisonburg

Withers, Brady, and Bourne will all be there. I have to say, Bourne being there is pretty brave if all is still silent on the realignment front.

Great Falls? Wha? I mean, A-Town bar sucked, but at least people live in Arlington.

The email said more info about registration will be coming soon. I assume that's when times will be announced.

Heard there will likely be a second event in DC or Arlington it's just not confirmed yet. DC/Nova DC is stepping up its game with privately donated hookups at private club type venues too is how they got the Great Falls spot. Also will address some of the long unmet needs out of Sterling/Leesburg/Ashburn folks.

The Richmond peeps are going to have to do it right so I can be motivated to attend theirs. I always seem to miss the VA Beach event with work travels and that is the case again this year.

Will there be auction items?
Student-Athletes?

Any clue where in Great Falls this will take place? I was interested about the new location as well. I remember pretty small crowds when the event used to take place at Maggiano's in Tysons, so being even further away from offices/homes probably won't help.

Also hoping head coaches actually show up this year. Brady and Mickey dropping out of the NOVA last year made me skip.

I haven't been in a couple of years, is it no longer a sit down dinner? I got the email about it today and RVSP'd and it doesn't look like it costs anything.

REALLY, REALLY hope everyone shows up this year, either with good news or at least willing to give an explanation in JB's case.

For a fan who has never been to one of the caravan things, what sort of event is it?

Talk and schmoozing? Film strips (showing my age!!)? What exactly is the format?

The Great falls one is very close to me so I should probably go, just want to know what to expect.

Thanks.

Brian

Hi Brian,

The River Bend CC setting will be a big change for the NoVa event, but hopefully a positive one this year. In the past it's been in a private room at a bar in Arlington, though last year was more just in the middle of a crowded bar. There's usually a silent auction for some JMU gear and autographed stuff, things like DC United tickets, etc., and even Suite packages for BFS or similar. There are apps and mingling for a while and then Buckhantz emcee's and tells funny stories about going to parties at what is now Joshua Wilton in his day. One year he even brought his JAC card from Madison College where he had a huge mullet and passed it around. Then each coach takes the mic and gives a speech for a while. Mickey would always say we have the best team ever lined up and in really good years with high hopes there might even be a senior player or two.

This year I think they're going to do it as more of a panel discussion with audience questions so as not to overwhelm Coach E in the mingling portion, but I'm not sure. Though River Bend will be a bit out of the way for most of the younger Arlington crowd, it will definitely be a more friendly JMU-only environment (one year we had a room at Bailey's while Maryland had the same event with Friese, Gary Williams, and Fridge in the room next door though that was actually pretty cool) and might attract a few of our older, more well-heeled supporters like you may be.

Generally a fun, low pressure event that is what you make of it. Some years I've gone out of my way to engage coaches or admins and gotten a lot out of it and others I've just enjoyed beers, talked with friends, and waited for the speeches. Highly recommend this one though and don't hesitate to mention the boards if you suspect it's one of us fellow dorks.

Thanks for the info. Kinda figured it was like what you explained however I was not sure.

Sounds like it will be a nice time, need to ask the wife and see if she also wants to go.

As far as fellow dorks from the boards, I should fit right in!!!
