RE: Mike Aresco: Memphis is the front-runner for 2014-15 tourney.
I like Memphis as at least a semi-regular location. Good city, good fans. I've enjoyed my trips for football & basketball there.
I do see a fairness in giving a turn to Cincinnati or UCONN or Temple. This conference is so spread out that moving it around gives fans from all regions a better chance to attend.
CUSA had cities bid on hosting the tournament. That obviously needs to be a factor in the decision, as well.
Right now, I'd be very happy to take Memphis over El Paso !

Much different that it used to be. Check out the Yard House at the Banks.

I'm only half joking when I say his, but you could hold the AAC tournament in Louisville with Louisville gone and draw better than some locales. Memphis should be the quasi-home for it for the foreseeable future. Look at their attendance compared to everyone else. Then notice their semi-central location. I could see Cincy as the "other" host as they are the other semi central city, but Memphis blows everyone away with attendance, is a nice destination, and drivable to a good majority of the conference. Most of the other conference tourneys have one primary location, and Memphis seems to fit the bill. Doesn't mean it has to be every year, but should be the primary host.
I'm not knocking Memphis, but when I went to the Liberty Bowl I spent about 2 hours on Beale, then I was done with it. I saw Graceland, but I have no need to return. The only other things I'd want to see are the Civil Rights Museum and the ducks at the Peabody. I'd probably check out some other non-touristy bbq joint like I did the last time, though the drive scared me.
As a destination, I would find more things that interest me in Dallas, New Orleans, Houston, Tampa, Orlando, and Philly.
Again, not to knock Memphis, but if we are picking places for being "destinations," I wouldn't pick Memphis as tops.
I don't think Louisville will ever hold the tournament, but I like Bardstown Road more than I do Beale Street.

This. I lived in Midtown during my years in Memphis...best part of the city that tourists aren't usually aware of IMO.

I've always said Beale Street is for tourists...Overton Square/Cooper-Young are for Memphians.

Cincinnati packed a 15,000 capacity arena for the week downtown at US Bank Arena the last time we hosted C-USA in 2004.
There is no reason to lock in on one city. Bush league. Either pick a neutral big city to host full time, or move it among the several qualified cities.

Funny but only sort of --- it's not where I wanted Memphis to be when I first learned of our invite.

Yep, the couple who collects art and goes to plays is moving out and the family with 15 kids and lives in a 'double wide' is moving in. It's back to CUSA.

Ironic, seeing as many of us felt the same way when Memphis State got the invite... Y'all were supposed to bring the Liberty Bowl, so we were willing to go along, but...

SEC locked up Nashville.
No shortage of places to host for member schools:
Tulsa- hosted CUSA and NCAAs at BOK
NOLA- NBA arena
Houston- NBA arena
Dallas- NBA arena
Philly- NBA arena
Orlando- NBA arena
Hartford- XL
Cincy - whatever its called now
Tampa- St Pete Times Ctr
Memphis - FEF
You could also look at some neutral sites near multiple schoos:
Charlotte (ECU could be the host)
St Louis - pretty central location and wouldn't interfere w/ MVC
Brooklyn- Barclays (close for Temple and UConn)
OK City- NBA arena
not that the neutrals here would be top choice, just an idea
No comparison. Look at the other home cities the SEC had to consider............Gainesville, Florida...Athens, Georgia...Lexington, Kentucky...Columbia, Missouri...Columbia, South Carolina...Knoxville, Tennessee...Tuscaloosa, Alabama...Fayetteville, Arkansas...Auburn, Alabama...Baton Rouge, Louisiana...Oxford, Mississippi...Starkville, Mississippi...and College Station, Texas. Nashville was kind of a no-brainer.
