RE: Kent State @ Akron
The telling stat from last night is Goodson at 20 some minutes. We have a chance with him at 11 minutes. Why Sendy chose to up his minutes is a puzzle. Another puzzle is Brewer disappearing. I would not care if he is replaced with a more determined player. I like Spicer and Kellon Thomas is the most effective player on the team for the next 2 years. Sendy's recruiting must get better. A lot will have to happen over the summer for us to get back to the top of the conference. Spicer needs weights and a big man camp. Ortiz needs a build up. We definitely need some additions. Hope they are coming.

In regards to "What the hell was Sendy supposed to do?" The answer is recruit better.

I totally agree. You know your needs; recruit to meet those needs.

It appears that the Golden Flashes will make the trip southwest to Oxford on Monday evening.

I agree 100%. I know of players that would have been proud to wear the blue and gold that are playing in the SEC and B1G. Sendy didn't want them. I am not sure if he didn't believe they would come to Kent or if he believed they weren't good enough, but that is what I heard the rational was.

Danny - that's a big statement from you. Pretty unusual for a kid (s) who actually plays in the BIG or SEC (not just on the roster) to be turned down by a MAC school. Can you tell us more? Did these kids have baggage?

I see Sendy now taking kids (Lawrence this year, guys coming in next year) that I don't think look like legitimate D-1 players. Hard to understand how Sendy could say no to legitimate BIG/SEC player. Most of those guys do very well if not dominate the MAC.

I am sure Goodson is a good kid, but he just isn't a very good D1 basketball player. I wish him luck in the future, hope he makes a lot of money playing overseas (if thats what he wants to do), and in general hope he has a great life. Regardless of how much he was able to help the team win, he is a Golden Flash, and for that I will always be in his corner.

I'm sure there are plenty of great kids on the team sitting on the bench. Because they are great kids does not dictate that they should be playing. The coach makes the decisions who plays and who doesn't. Because a player is a wonderful person does not buy a ticket to play in a game. You play players at this level who understand the game and know how to win.

Did you stop reading my post when you got to the good kid part? I did go on to say he wasn't a very good D1 player. The problem was Goodson had to play. Maybe he should have played less minutes and certainly shouldn't have been jacking like he did, but he was one of our better options. Ortiz can't score. Tabb was useless. Spicer can only dunk. Henny was very limited. Lawrence isn't really ready. What the hell was Sendy supposed to do?

"Lawrence isn't really ready. What the hell was Sendy supposed to do?"
Sendy/staff were supposed to recruit better post-players, as Sendy's is known for teaching/coaching big men. This is his 3rd year as head coach & was on the staff for a few yrs prior.

Wow, we could have really used them, especially when Zeke was with the Zips & now WMU/Toledo's big men putting up really nice #s. What a shame. Maybe Davis & Hall step right in and the front court play next year is much improved?

OK - well, once Sendy actually produces a good big man, we'll be able to see if that is true. Can he take credit for Justin Greene? Justin's been the only productive big man that I've seen in Kent lately

I am not going to say we "turned them down." It's not like they were begging to come to Kent State. One has an family member that played for KSU and could have been delivered on a silver platter and the other players father is really really good friends with someone that absolutely could have delivered this guy. Sorry, but I am just not going to name them because I don't want to alienate my friends and contacts. There are no certainties in life, so I don't want to say they would have 100% come to KSU, but I know Sendy wasn't interested in pursuing them (for one reason or another).

Didn't expect you to "name names"...Since you wrote "I know of players that would have been proud to wear the blue and gold that are playing in the SEC and B1G. Sendy didn't want them". That meant to me that Sendy did in fact "turn them down." I guess you're saying that Sendy did not pursue them/offer them. I have not heard of many BIG/SEC type kids who a MAC coach wasn't interested in. Kind of odd...

Thanks for the info.

I don't think it happens a lot and I think it's entirely possible that Coach didn't think there was a chance in hell either kid would actually come to KSU. I don't blame him for that. It's not often a high major kid would consider a MAC school. That being said, I have it on good authority from outsiders that both would have come to Kent.

Lawrence was a late scholly that opened and he was supposed to redshirt but didn't want to. That should answer a lot of the critics to the preparedness of him and the fact that some of you guys complain about how we never redshirt anyone. Some guys take time to develop, that's just part of the deal.
