Stopped going when they closed the arcade. On the upside, I have an old and real Silky's Diver bucket full of quarters.

Which part is sad to you?

The part about people who don't go places and do things (or do so begrudgingly) because there are people there that don't look and act the same way that they do.

What do you mean by look AND act. Looking different is one thing. Acting different is the issue.

Speaking or dressing differently. Playing yo gotti when pulling into the parking lot instead of rascal flatts or katy perry.

And now they're saying the shooter is still on the loose. Apparently the guys that they pulled over and arrested were just driving a car that matched the description of the shooter's car. Picked the wrong time to be in the vicinity of the mall with two stolen hand guns in the vehicle.

Don't you think there is a correlation with increase in crime at that mall?

RE: oak court mall shooting
The mall has been a dump for awhile. I don't know anybody who goes in the actual mall. Macy's and Dillard's still do good business. You can park and go in them without dealing with the riff raff inside the mall.

You can go to the corner of Perkins and Poplar and see two polar opposites of the retail world. On the south side is Oak Court Mall. Stores are mostly crap. Hit it's peak about 10-15 years ago. On the north side is Laurelwood. I believe it has close to 100% occupancy. Most are upscale stores like Joseph, Sachi, Orvis, James Davis, etc. People just don't go to indoor malls anymore. It's not a Memphis thing. It's a national trend. People like to park in front of a store or group of stores, walk in and walk out. Many just buy online.

It will be interesting to see what happens to the mall if (when) it goes belly up. Unlike all other past and present Memphis malls, it's located in one of the most stable and affluent areas of the city. I would assume they will redevelop it into some kind of mixed use space with apartments, retail and office.

I am old. Sultan's Castle in Raleigh Springs Mall and the arcade in the Food Fair on White Station / Summer were my hangouts. Trick back then was to put a nickel and two pennies in the pinball machines and you got a game. Then push coin return and you got the nickel and one of the pennies back.

This is what I see happening as well....Even if you leave Macy's as a stand-alone store, there are plenty of options for this area. Once Simon decides to pull out, this will become some of the most sought-after real estate in Memphis history.

I spent the better part of my youth in Sultan's Castle.

People shouldn't be offended if kids wanna share in their good fortune; the criminals shouldn't have to pull out a gun to get their fair share.

Union Station in St. Louis, which thrived in the late 80's and 90's, is now practically deserted. It was finished as a retail destination and transition to office space has begun. That was a very cool place to go.

I ran in there to get a cup of coffee and a quick birthday present a few months back early in the morning and I can tell you who DOES use the mall...

The elderly. They were walking the length of the mall in droves.

Events like this have lead me to start the process to get my concealed-carry permit.

Brooks Brothers has left Wolfchase and the whole thing is going to pot.

Too bad Oak Court has one of the nicest Macys in the South

Well, there is an under lying common fundamental behind the decaying of malls.

But, political correctness will not admit to it.

If parents wouldn't drop their freaking kids off and let their brat fracking kids run wild things would be fine.

It's a shame people can't enjoy places in peace. Same thing goes for Paradiso.

Every problem in America can be traced to one group of people. Always has.

Which group of people depends on the era and the bigot you ask.
