The answer to the original question is YES, but it relates to any of the teams ranked 6-10 in the conference. IF ANY of those teams wins the conference tournament, the AAC will have 6 representatives.

No it's not. Hope springs eternal, but sorry. Pipe dream. Meaning opium.
In March anything is possible. As a UC fan, you should recall St. Louis coming out of nowhere to win the 2000 C-USA tourney.
Yes, it is possible... But consider this:
IF a team other than UC, UL, UConn, Memphis, or SMU wins the Conference Tournament, thus securing the auto-bid, THAT MEANS that they beat SMU, or Memphis in the conference tourney.
IN OTHER WORDS... if an unexpected team wins the conference tournament, it might pop the bubble of one of our lower teams. I think it's more than likely if a Houston or Temple or whomever makes a run, they end up displacing one of our bubble teams and the American ends up getting 4 or 5 in anyway.
Besides, the "At Large" bids get dicey when several other conferences have their auto-bids go to unexpected teams. So if Southern Illinois wins the "Valley" tournament instead of Wichita State, there goes an "At Large" bid that might have gone to a 6th team from the American. There's always at least a couple of conferences where the "Auto bid" gets a surprise... If that happens in a bunch, the "At Large" pool could get very shallow very quickly for this conference.

Right now, I don't think any of the five are bubble teams, so one should have no affect on the other. Granted that could change as the week plays out, but the two extra at large bids over years past (3 extra teams in the 68 team field, minus the new BE autobid) really put less stress on the bubble.

There is zero chance that any one of the 5 teams would not make it in at this point, even if one of those teams lost all remaining games and their first game in the tournament. All 5 teams are locks. If anyone other than one of those 5 teams wins the tournament, we will have 6 teams in the tournament. We have 5 locks, and if one of those teams doesn't win the tournament, we will get 6 in.

The bubble is extremely weak this year so I think it is safe to say the league's top 5 teams are all locks to make the tournament at this point.
While it is possible that the American could have an underdog steal the tournament championship auto-bid, the odds of that happening are pretty low. The top 5 are a combined 44-4 against the bottom five this season.
