MyBB Could we get 6 teams in?
If some one other than the top 5 teams win the aac tournament (and by some one else I mean Houston), would we get 6 teams into the tournament?

You might want to change the 'football' icon to basketball ---- and certainly, with an upset in the AAC Tournament by one of the bottom five. We have an auto bid for the AAC Tournament winner as I understand.

We would have to make a deep run in the conference tournament in order for that to happen. If we get on the side of the bracket with SMU and Cincy, it's possible.

I think the OP is asking if one of the top 5 would be bumped from the field, if an upset occurs. IMO no, we have 5 teams solidly in the field. If an upset occurs and a bottom 5 team wins we would get 6 bids.

OP said 'if someone other than the top 5 *win* the AAC tournament" ---

RE: Could we get 6 teams in?
We get 6 teams in if Houston win the AAC tournament. The catch there of course is the extremely low odds of UH winning 3 in 3 days. In some conferences in some years that's not as daunting for a 6 seed. In this league however we're well aware of the gap from 5 to 6. The gap from top to bottom however also means the chances of the 7-10 seeds even winning a single game are low. In the end that means it's very likely they wouldn't get a semi game against a 7 seed and would have to get 3 wins against some combo of SMU, Memphis, UC, UConn, and UofL.

Ken Pom does a log5 for each conference tournament and will post his AAC prediction next week. My guess is he'll have Houston's chance of winning the whole thing in the 0.1-0.5% range.

RE: Could we get 6 teams in?
Anyone have an idea of how the AAC Tournament brackets are shaping up? I know some combination of the first 5 are set. Just not the order --- although I'm thinking, in order, Cincinnati, Louisville, SMU, UConn, and Memphis. But with the type of games left that could change quick I'd think. Isn't Houston locked as a 6 seed with Rutgers probably a 7?

RE: Could we get 6 teams in?
Cincy- Can finish #1-4, with 94% chance of #1/2
UofL- Can finish #1-5, with 98% chance of #1/2/3
SMU- Can finish #1-5, with 90% chance of #2/3/4
UConn- Can finish #2-5, with 90% chance of #4/5
Memphis- Can finish #1-5, with 75% chance of #5

Houston- Locked at #6
Rutgers- Locked at #7

-USF/Temple play Sat, winner is #8
-UCF plays Houston Fri. If UCF wins they are #9, if they lose they are #10
-USF/Temple loser is #9 with UCF loss or #10 with UCF win

No it's not. Hope springs eternal, but sorry. Pipe dream. Meaning opium.

I don't see beating SMU as a daunting task, the are good and very well coached but definitely beatable if the little guard doesn't go off, I think we match up well with Cinci too, but even if we won those two games we would either get Memphis at home (no bueno) or the monster that is the Louisville Cardinals. Just give me my NIT or CBI bid and call it a day.

Possibly 7...if ECU, Tulsa, or Tulane win the CUSA tourney. 04-cheers

While I wish Houston all the best , I think the more realistic question right now is, with a strong finish, will Houston be considered for an NIT bid? Right now sites that project such things ( yes there are NIT projection sites)

http://bracketmatrix.com/nit.html

dont have them considered yet (although this particular site hasnt updated for a few days). I would think a lackluster RPI and OOC SOS could be holding them back .

Other post season gigs such as the CBI or CIT I would think be in Houstons future if the NCAA or NIT dont pan out .

Good Luck , Coogs
