I had no problem bringing on a small back pack for the Orange Bowl on a Spirit flight...did that rule change?
Allegiant out of Rockford is still at $300 roundtrip... that should come down to $200 as the time gets closer..

Air + Hotel combo deals from Vegas.com are the way to go, especially if you plan to stay on the strip. Last time I did it, they also included a free shuttle from airport to hotel (both ways).

In all seriousness, why would this entice anyone any not living close to DeKalb want new season tickets? Even then?
A Thursday in August. Against Presbyterian? You kidding me? Next home game October, and you are going 3 straight weeks. Then a weekday in November. Really?

NIU needs to start rewarding its fans for great support the past several years. You don't start rewarding fans, they will leave, its a give and take, and NIU has only been in a take take take mode for the past 5 to 7 years.

Just hope Frazier can improve things from now on. We've had these crappy schedules for far too long.

I like the schedule and I don't live in dekalb..
Thurrsday games are ok because Friday is a light day/can take off
Northwestern isn't really an away game.
And las Vegas is manageable.
Arkansas is tough. But I like that we are playing a weak SEC team.
Still better than last year when all the games seemed to be in Nov and it was so cold..

Schedule could have been alot worse and somewhat better.

I held out hope but am disappointed we did not get out of the Presbyterian game.
Without even seeing the 2014 Huskies in spring game, my guess is 7-5 at worst or 9-3 at very best.
My hope is Miami is homecoming. They will draw alums in area better than the others.

Sounds great to me. Should be a beautiful evening for the 2014 Opening Night Kickoff.
As a matter of fact, last year on a Thursday night opener for Wake Forest, 28K came out to see Presbyterian. Of course, more accurately, 99% of them came out to see WF play.
By the way, that was WF's avg attendance with a low of 26K and a high of 30K (FSU).
3 of our MAC brothers opened against FCS teams on Thursday night and attendance was 16K,18K & 20K. Indiana opened vs Indiana State with 40K.
Improving attendance is more about increasing the number of fans like us and less about a schedule that works for everybody. The programs with deep, loyal fan bases are there.... any day...any time.

Picking up the phone is not being a miracle worker, its doing what an AD should do and what is hired to do. If NIU is just interested in collecting paychecks from bigger games, that's fine, we will assume our place of irrelevance along side the WMU's of the world. If NIU is interested in becoming a relevant player in the college football world, the scheduling philosophy needs to change and change right quick. The current path would take us to Illinois State status, and very soon.
If we look at Top programs, they all have a few cupcake games in their schedule. I'd much rather we had a tougher SOS, but if we get to play NW, and an SEC team, I'll take it. I know we get to play EMU in coference, and they aren't exactly a tough oppent either, but I do like the idea of padding the win column half way through the season with an extra week to prepare for BALL STATE, too. This is a recovery year, and I'm not expecting an Undefeated team.
I'm okay with this year's schedule, because it's for 2014. If this was 2015's schedule, I'd be upset.

RE: 2014 football schedule is out
Thursday night for the home opener is the right move. It is Labor Day weekend and if you go with a Saturday game you run the risk of people being out of town. Most people aren't going to rearrange a holiday weekend around an NIU game. It is a low end FCS team coming in so no one is really showing just for the opponent. If it was name team it may be a different story but I am one of probably many that is not going to rearrange my Labor weekend just to see NIU blow out Presbyterian.

NU, UNLV, Razorbacks back to back to back? That is a ridiculously tough schedule. Way too tough of a schedule imo. If those are balanced with one or two of those at home its reasonable.

Take an objective look at the teams on the schedule, who they play OOC and when NIU plays them, this schedule is set up very well for the Huskies to shine. Yep the home schedule isn't what you'd like it to be, so make the home games you can and do a little traveling when possible. The MAC is by far the most geographically compact league in D1A or FCS football. Vegas is the cheapest destination to fly in to and stay for a few days. Little Rock is only 624 MI from DeKalb, a relatively small distance compared to what MWC (CSU to SDST), CUSA(Marshall to UTEP or North Texas anyone?) Sunbelt( Georgia St to Texas St or Arkansas St) travel for conference games. There will be plenty of cheap tickets available for EMU on 10/25 where Huskie fans should make up half the crowd and it's a short drive to the Zoo for the boat rowers the date after Tday when most will have that day off.

NIU plays the Hogs in Fayetteville, about 190 miles northwest of Little Rock

I'm not quite sure how to interpret the "pick up the phone" comment...like ADs dont devote alot of time to communicating with their bretheren?
