Had to watch from home but what a nice easy win with lots of minutes by frosh. Very good shooting from field great shooting from three and from ft line. Elana had a great nite and hope to see more of that. Shooting last two games has been wonderful and the long distance shooters are on and I hope they stay on.

Coach Cullop stated in the post game interview that this is what she sees in practice with Elena's shooting.

Refs were awful. No excuse for their incompetence. Yes, we won big but should have been bigger. Disappointed in the freshmen's development in spite of Ellena's big game. We just let Kent hang around 30 or so points down. All in all a poorly coached, poorly played, poorly reffed, poorly announced, poorly ushered game. Another bad win for the Rockets.

RE: WBB: Toledo at Kent State
Today the women did exactly what a good team is supposed to do when they play a conference cellar dweller---- build up a comfortable lead and never let the opposing team back into the game.
Overall the team is improving and has looked relatively good since the Akron game but there are still going to be both ups and downs because they are still a young team. Fortunately the two senior guards act as anchors and set the tone for the team.
Ana Capotosto had very little real game experience coming into to this year and she has now developed into a major force as the season has progressed. Although Elena has struggled with her shooting since her injury, today she lived up to her billing as a pure shooter hitting 6 for 6 free throws and 3 for 5 three pointers for 60% (her average for 3-pointers last season in Spanish league play was 41%). If this continues she can be a force to be reckoned with. Janice Monakana shows a lot of athleticism, speed, quickness and potential for her size, but she still needs to work on learning to play under control particularly when driving to the basket. Sophie Reecher has shown progress as the season moves on but still has room for improvement, but then centers are often slower to develop their skills.

There may have been as many UT fans as Kent fans 45 minutes before the tip-off but by game time I would guess there were 50-100 UT fans in attendance and maybe 250-300 Kent fans ...a far cry from what they used to draw for WBB.
I wonder if the Kent administration still thinks it was a good idea to can Bob Lindsay after a few down years ("down" compared to all those years he won the MAC or had them very near the top)? They have not had any success whatsoever since they got rid of him and are currently in the cellar.

I agree with the disappointing development of the freshmen. However yesterday was the first game in some time when a freshman other than Janice got any meaningful minutes. Elena continues to be a puzzle for me. Coach said in her interview that her minutes have been limited because of her defense or lack thereof, which is now improving. What I saw yesterday is that she basically hangs around the 3 point line waiting for defense to lose her and for her teammates to find her. One thing for sure is that she is an excellent free throw shooter, although when you basically shoot open jumpers you don't get fouled a lot (2 free throws for the season before yesterday).
Regarding the game yesterday ... I think its hard to expand the gap beyond 30 points particularly when you want to play the bench in order develop and reward them for their efforts. No question that Kent State is a very weak MAC team with nearly absent of an offensive threat.

My post was intended to encapsulate all the doom and gloom stuff for the glass-half-empty crowd since no one else did and its been a mainstay of all hoops threads. Obviously, the Rockets did just about everything right yesterday, the freshman played well, coaching was brilliant and if you didn't catch the dripping sarcasm about the thirty point lead I'm sorry. The Rockets did what the men have been unable to. Pounded a weak team, got their foot on their neck and never let up.

I agree that Ana has become an good offensive threat. She is scrappy and also contributes on the boards. Her minutes appear to be constrained by lapses on defense. Elena is a puzzle for me. Her shooting for the Spanish national team last summer was about where its been for nearly 20 games with TU this year. She was only eighth on the Spanish national team in FG % and shot 24% from 3 point range. She certainly hit some bombs yesterday. Lets hope that she is evolving out of an extended slump. I also note that no one mentions Oliva Braun who I thought early in the season had promise. She hardly sees the hardwood now.

Olivia is a cypher. When she plays she seems to play hard and rebounds well. As in need of bigs as we are I'm surprised she doesn't spell Inma or even Crunch some. Not sure what thhe weaness is because I don't see her enough but given Janice's minutes and her offensive shortcomings I'd guess you sit for lack of defense, not for lack of offense.

I'm a little curious why Lindsay Baker isn't back?? Out a long time for a concussion. She was in warmups last home game but didn't travel to Miami and didn't see her on tv at Kent game either. Anybody know what's going on?

In the post game press conference after the Bowling Green game Tricia hinted that both Recker and Baker would probably be redshirted.

You keep quoting her national team summer stats (24%) and I will keep quoting her regular season Spanish league stats (41%)-----I like mine better.

The only thing funnier than this post was the fact that no one got the sarcasm. I guess that just goes to show how absurd some of the serious posters are over on the men's side. Now no one can tell what's serious and what's humor.

Actually I assumed that most people got the sarcasm except for Northcoast43 and he can be forgiven because he hasn't been around long enough yet to be familiar with H2O's brand of humor.

I like yours better to. Unfortunately the only ones that really count for rocket fans are the UT season stats and at this point, after her first 18 games, its 15/62 or 24% 3 pointers. I am sure we are both hoping that this will improve significantly over time. We need her to become a serious 3 point threat!
